Yep, you read the title correct. This is to show off not only a scale model, but also the full size plane.
First up, the model. This is the MPM 1/72 PT-19 Cornell. Not a bad little kit. It includes PE parts and Vac-form canopies. The funny thing is, I actually built and finished the model before we painted the 1:1 plane. Then I saw that the colors were way off, and had to repaint and decal the whole thing. The paint was actually matched to the full size plane and is insignia yellow and Army Air Corps Blue [both matched from codes found in the Monogram Paint [not the model company]. The decals were made with dry transfers, and the rudder was masked and painted. The yellow numbers were put in place BEFORE the 1:1 got its markings. they went with white for it. Oh well, both are correct.
And now the 1:1 PT-19. This plane was aquired by the Iowa Aviation Heritage Museum about 4.5-5years ago. The previous pilot ended up grounding it and damaging the wings and rudder. After a long and very extensive restoration, we recently finished it and finally put it back in the air where it belongs. And let me tell you, it was a beautiful sight to behold. Here are a couple pictures of it, more can be found at the museum's web site [link in my sig]
