Best 1/48 F-15 C kit
Posted by wroper11 on Monday, November 17, 2003 10:30 PM
Hey guys,

Whats the best C model Eagle kit, Hasagewa or Tamiya? I want good detail and armaments. Something that will look good with PE (which will be my first attempt) How about it I've heard you can shake a Tamiya kit and it come out of the box assembled. My last Hasagewa kit had a horrible seam down the middle of the canopy.

I will be waiting to hear from the professional here in this forum..LOL

Both are excellent kits, although I do like the way the Hasegawa intakes fit together and the somewhat finer engraving. That seam running down the middle of the canopy is in fact a necessary measure to get a canopy that correctly captures the bulged shape of the real thing.

One does need to polish the offensive mould parting line out of the canopy, but that is easy to do with a couple fine grits of sandpaper (400 then 600, then 1200, then 1500, then 2000, then a nail buffing file, finished off with some plastic polish on a dremel tool with a cotton buffing wheel. There are other methods, but just compare the canopy to the Revell/Monogram one and youj'll see the difference.

Have you taken a look at the Academy kit? Mine doesn't look too bad, and has the option of a C or D variant. Nice little kit for far less than the Hasegawa.

If its anything like the Academy E it will be a great kit.
Its the only kit that I have had in a long time that has a full weapons loadout.

I may have to dodge tomatoes, but I'll stick up for the Monogram kit from about 10 years back. Built up nicely, with clean lines, no filler, and excellent results. Can't vouch for the accuracy of the dimensions or panel lines (I'm not a bean-counter), but a very sleek kit that's very affordable.

The Mongram kit is the best one if you're on a budget, Hasegawa's kit is the better of the two you mentioned. The Academy kit also builds into a good looking model, but then again there is no such thing as an ugly Eagle.
