Planet Models' 1/72 Fairey Barracuda TR Mk. V- Completed
Posted by jwb on Friday, June 26, 2009 10:23 AM

I finished this resin Fairey Barracuda. It's a nice little kit. Requires a little modeling muscle if you've not dealt with resin before, but it would not be a bad first resin kit for a modeler with a few kits under their belt.

I wrote a full build report here, if you'd like to take a look.

The Barracuda was not a pretty aircraft, IMO. When I finished, I couldn't tell if I'd done a good job or not- it's ugly no matter how you dress 'er up! LOL But it's a fun build, and an unusual subject.

Not a very pretty bird but you did a fine job on it.

Jon, that is a stunner my friend. Dont doubt its quality. Its most definately top drawer mate. Kudos on the canopy masking. I hope you had masks for the canopy. That could have been the death of me if i was building the monster.

Duke Maddog, jeaton01, Buckeye- Thanks so much, my friends!

Luftwoller- Thanks for the kind words. I actually masked that myself. I've found I like using Model Master tape. It's a vinyl feeling tape, almost like masks are made from. And though it takes longer, I cut off single pieces of tape, and work one frame at a time. And this one had 35 or so frames.... Big Smile [:D] So it was an exercise in patience. But since I've been doing it this way, I've been happy with the results. I actually set aside one Saturday morning just for that. I told myself that would be all I'd do, and I just took my time.

That's some fine work on an aircraft that is quite ugly ... like the saying "a face only a mother could love" I suppose.

Well done Jon!  I have always liked the somewhat awkward looks of the Barracuda, with that odd looking wing placement.  I like yours a lot. Thumbs Up [tup]

Jwb........Im going to go against the trend here, i think the barracuda is a mean looking thing....it looks almost "stuka ish" from some perspective's....only the british could build something like that.

I will however follow the trend, and say that what you have done looks great.....along with the others on this site...your an artist

Nice job on the 'Cuda, Jon! The Brits (and many countries) sure had some ungainly birds (like the Roc and Skua), but they are all neat in their uniqueness. Nice job weathering the bird!

Nicely done Jon, the paint job looks great (nice fading) and I personally love the looks of some of those FAA builds.  I'll have to check out your build report when I have some time.

razordws- Thanks so much! The fading is actually oil washes, sort of a dot filter dealie, only much wetter in the application of turpenoid.

Brews- Thanks so much!
