Ah, well done so far!  Looks just like the beast when it flies over my house. That blue looks spot on, well done.  Glad I could help you with this project.

Well I am 90% completed with this build. The only things left are how to affix the "Remove Before Flight", and how to make the "HUD" and Seat covers.

I want to thank everyone who provided there input when I set out to do this build correctly. When I saw the TWOBOB decals and being from Wisconsin I had to build it and I had to do it right.

Special THANKSYesYesYes goes to Daywalker for all is valuable input on making this a true F-16C Block 30.

I used the Tamiya 25/32 and Tamiya CJ kit. I also added Eduards "Big Ed" set for the cockpit, wheel wells / landing gear, Steel Beach FOD plugs, TWOBOB Decals and ScaleFinishes for the "Blockbuster Video Blue" Paint.

As for the probe covers I am still thinking how I can make those along with the seat cover?

These should be exactly what you need...

FS 36320 is Dark Ghost Gray had to check Sprue Brothers for that color. BTW you'll probably need to change the color name you have on that picture you posted to neutral gray not light ghost gray.

I got this from a gentleman at Hill AFB involved with the paint process during business at the base who showed me the REG that from the mid 90`s till present the "Hill" Scheme ( FS36270 and FS36118)  is the Standard for USAF F-16.

As for the radome if you do a search for F-16 radome, or having the privilege in talking with someone first hand like I the light gray would be a close match.

Ok I checked by bottles of Testors Model Master paint and FS36270 is definitely Neutral Gray but FS 36375 is Light Ghost Gray. And the gunship gray you used looks right but I'll have to look into FS 36320 to see what color it actually is and let you know. BTW I have a half finished F-16C in MIANG livery that I painted Model Master Neutral Gray and Tamiya dark gray (actually does look like gunship gray).

Mikeym,

Thanks for your questions and input. I want to get this right so its folks like you that will make this a success.

The radome is painted in Tamiya Light Gray, XF-66. Having only online information / photo's for reference and 3 of those pics show different shades of colors and the Model Master Acryl "Light Ghost Gray" being to "light" I chose the XF-66.

The upper fuselage is FS36118 Gunship Gray and the lower fuselage is FS36270 Neutral Gray. That's what the TwoBob Reference sheet referenced.

As for the probe covers I am still thinking how I can make those along with the seat cover?Hmm

Keep the input coming!

I will post an updat this weekend with the decals inplace.

Ok looking at the Hasegawa paint guide for the Hasegawa F-16 FS 36270 is listed as light gray for the fuselage foreward. The color you want for the radome and sensor buldges behind the radome is FS 36320 and is listed as Gray.

On the workbench: Dragon 1/350 scale Ticonderoga class USS BunkerHill 1/720 scale Italeri USS Harry S. Truman 1/72 scale Encore Yak-6

Is it me or is the radome the same color as the main fuselage? You should try a lighter shade for the radome. Well I don't have any Tamiya F-16's all I have are 1/48 Hasegawa F-16's. Oh and Eduard makes some really nice RBF flags though you will need to manufacture the probe covers for the fuselage and nose probes. And there are covers for all the vents on the aircraft to keep debris out of the vents.

Well I am done to the home stretch. Putting all the Eduard PE in the "wells" took patience and time but I did it!

    09FEB24002.jpg picture by xlt2002ms

Started decaling this AM and should be finished today with the day off.

   09Feb24001.jpg picture by xlt2002ms

I still have the "FOD" covers to work on and weapons.

Another question I do have after looking at these photos over and over and over

                                 Please click on link:

                      http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/photo/209773.html

is right below the canopy...is that painted GREEN???

I hope to have this wrapped up this weekend and will post final photo's.

thanks for looking and comments / questions welcome.

Youputz,

Many thanks for the photo's.  While I don't live in WI, I appreciate an excellent photo when I see one.  The pic of the Falcon over Lake.... is currently serving TDY as a background on my iMac.

Bang HeadBang HeadBang HeadBang HeadBang HeadBang HeadBang Head

Frank,

I know you may understand this since you are the one who provided me with the information on making a Block 30.

Having 2 Tamiya kits, PE and the Two Bob decals along with other builds..................somehow that small sheet got into the CJ box at the bottom and I never looked there.

All day I was going through my mind what to do. When I got home and saw your reply I went to the hobby room and looked through everything carefully and walla......eureka there it was!Big Smile

My apologies to all!Bow Down I am usually very organized!

Unto to the Gloss Coat - 2 mist coats, then the decals!

I took a look at the Two Bobs sheet, and the smaller sheet (the one with the pilot names) has these walkways present.  Do you still have that sheet?

When I get home form work tonight, I'll take a look at my rather large collection of 1/48 F-16 decals for a set of wing walk markings.  If I have some, they're yours.

Oh, and don't worry too much about those tail markings, if anything goes awry with them I can help you out with those too.

MaxPower,

I thought they were but looking at the two sheets supplied in the Tamiya kit....Not-ta!

I remember seeing a kit a while back, not sure of the manufacture that had them. If I can remember that I'll just buy the kit and cannibalize the decals.

Some More progress made and a snag:

Navigation lights frames painted Aluminum and lenses green/red. Landing strut with using the Eduard color PE set.

                          NAVLightsandWiring.jpg picture by xlt2002ms

The Canopy Painted, Glossed, Decal-ed, and Flat Coated

                          Canopy.jpg picture by xlt2002ms

The Tail Painted in Blockbuster Blue. Next are the Decals and I MUST TAKE MY TIME!

                           Tail.jpg picture by xlt2002ms

The fuselage painted...........however I now must decide after looking at the real F-16 that it has "wing walk line".

Do I not put them, do I find a decal sheet that has them, do I mask them and paint on or use pinstripping?

Thanks to Mikeym, HawkeyeHobbies, echolmberg for chiming in with there ideas.

Hi Frank,

That's looking good. It should go well next to my Anniversary scheme. Have to figure a way to do it.

Will you be using all the Tamiya decals on your F-16?

Looking very good there!  As for your question, I used XF-19 for the lighter gray, XF-54 slightly darkened for the darker gray, and XF-53 Neutral Gray for the radome.  Not sure if that helps, but here is a photo of how those colors look together:

And one of the tail just because it is in 176FS markings. Embarrassed

Well I had some free time this afternoon and ideal weather condtions so I have completed the the top of the F-16. For a novice I think it turned out well. Sorry the PICS aren't better. One of those things I want to improve in 2010.

Tomorrow I will Gloss Coat so I can start decaling. But I do have a question for F-16 experts. See Below for questions.

               MASKED.

              IMG_3975-1.jpg picture by xlt2002ms

             PAINTED.

            IMG_3990.jpg picture by xlt2002ms

Question 1: Frank / daywalker I know you have been up close to this, or Hawkete / Gerald or anyone with upclose experience.......

What Color should I use for the nose??? I was thinking Tamiya XF-66 Light Grey?

General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon - USA

              Question 2:

Should I use all these decals on this Wisconsin ANG F-16C?

               IMG_3985-1.jpg picture by xlt2002ms

I also got the Tail Primed using Scalefinishes primer. PROPS to Jameston Kroon @ scalefinishes@gmail.com for the primer and the Dupont BLOCKBUSTER BLUE which goes on next. I e-mailed him what I wanted and he made it to spec.

Hi Frank,

I hope to complete this by the end of the month. Lots of things going on in December and January and also the fact I want to take my time with this kit to make sure its right.

I just finsihed and primed the tail.

IMG_3972.jpg F-16C Birth of the Tail Wisconsin ANG picture by xlt2002ms

The only primer I use is the Walmart brand. Its cheap and I have never had issues with it.

More to follow.

I am very glad to see this one is still in the works!  I worked quite a bit on mine, and finished the paint, decals, etc before realizing that I just was not happy with the paint.  First time I had ever used Tamiya primer out of the can on the model, and man did it soak up the paint!  I used four times more paint than I usually do, and still it does not look good.

It has been a while on this project but I have had some time to make progress.

This PIC shows the F-16C Wisconsin ANG off to the paintshop:

Morning Airmen,

Its been a couple weeks since my last post on this project. Same ole story, family, work, life...blah, blah, blah.

He is what I have completed so far.

The PE is a tedious process therefore another reason progress is slow:
