Latest build: Hurricane IIb Indian recon
Posted by zapme on Sunday, December 13, 2009 2:31 AM

Hi Everyone,

My latest build is the 1/48 Hobbycraft Hurricane II, which I'll be turning into the MkIIB that flew out of india as a recon aircraft. It was fitted with a camera which I could find no photo's of except for a drawing of the camera from Iliad design decals which I am grateful for. I will be  adding an aftermarket seat, wheels, Squadron canopy, also found the camera pod from Hannants and of course Iliad design Strange Huricane's. This build is for my local club build (challenge), must be finished by March which gives me plenty of time(I'm a slow one model builder so doing two together should be fun. I know you guys do more than one at any one time). Also on the bench is a 1/48 Airfix BF109F which is at the paint stage and will post that when it is ready. Any and all advise is always welcome.

Thanks for looking-Leo

Looks like a good start Leo.  The Seat & IP look especially nice.

Excellent work so far!  Watch out for the wing to fuselage fit (especially at the rear), it can be a real PITA.

will do Daywalker. One of the fuselage halves is a bit warped anyway so I've reinforced it with plasticard, but I'm not looking forward to getting it together. I might dunk it in hot water.

Hi Everyone,

Just a little bit of work, getting to hot to get to the bench. Anyways, put together the wing and undercarriage yesterday. Added a bit of tubing and wiring. There is not much underneath from the pictures I've got. sprayed it Tamiya flat aluminium and gave it a wash. Will tidy it up a bit later. One thing I don't like is the armour plating and the cockpit floor is on top of the wing in green. I would of preferred a separate cockpit. I don't know how I'm going to get the armour plate the correct angle? I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

Cheers-Leo

Hi Everyone, Just a quick update.

The fuselage is now together with no major problems. Just a little filler. I also added an Airwaves resin camera pod. I split the box canopy, but not to worry, I have an aftermarket vac form one. Guess what, stuffed them up as well. Will have to order another set from Squadron. It was my first time with vac for canopies, luckily they are not expensive.

Bit of advise from anyone, What colour should I paint the camera lens on the camera pod?

Thanks for looking-Leo

Hi there!

I'm new to this and I know that this is quite an old post, but I'll give it a go anyway.

My grandfather was based in India, possibly Calcutta flying the Hurricane circ. 1940 . I have recently purchased a model of the Hurricane to build and would like to replicate the colours if at all possible.

Do you know where I might be able to locate the information on this? obviously I can get the paints from the side of the box, but I dont know the specific accuracy for the particular posting in India for the period and station.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Kind regards,

Jez
