1/32 Revell Bell X-1, large pics inside
Posted by Gigatron on Saturday, May 8, 2010 5:08 PM

Hey gang,

Been working on this one for just about a month or so.  The build was fairly easy and straight forward.  Scratchbuilt parts include wiring behind the IP and masking tape seatbelts.  Also built a styrene box behind the cockpit and filled it with pennies to keep it from being a tail sitter.  And even though you can't see it once it's built, I rebuilt the oleo for the nose gear.  The original was just a mis-shapen hunk of plastic

The decals are also custom as the originals shattered from age.  Had a friend send me hi-res scans of the Pegasus 1/18 decals and went from there.  Revell doesn't include the NI decals with the red stripe, so those were added by me, into the new set.  Also rebuilt the BELL Aircraft logo as the original was too faded to use.  I also redid the Glamorous Glennis decal, but I didn't have a way to accurately cut it out, so I had to work with the stock decal, which broke into a few pieces, once on the plane.  After they were all designed in PS CS3, I printed them on Testors' decal paper, both clear and white background.  The paper takes very well to detail and micro set/solution.

Anyway, enough of the jabberin', here's the pics;

Enjoy,

Fred

Looking very good indeed Fred! Can we expect to see a series of 1/32 X-planes from you? I would love to see more of them!

Thanks, guys Cool

Frank, I might do the rest in 1/72 - very few exist in 1/32 except for maybe the old X-3 Stilleto.
