Warning on Future Floorwax and Solvaset

Don't you ever apply Solvaset on any kit with a coat of Future. Unless you like to have a white camo on your project.

Just sharin....(while I cry over my 1/32 Falcon)Disapprove [V]

All may not be lost.

I am sure I read recently that if you apply a second coat of future over the decals, as you normally would, then the discolouration disappears.

I will try brushing over. Spraying might make things worse.

Thanks!

A reapplication of Future will indeed fix the problem. I've had this happen before and more Future solved it.

Forget the Solva-set, use Future as a decal set. It reacts with itself fine :) and melts most decals quite well. You end up with a decal beautifully preserved in acrylic lamiations.

I've used solvaset on future before and had no problems with it. The future was well dried and cured though.

Noel,

I had fogging on a conopy I was working on when I used alcohol to clean some liquid mask off of it. Another coating of Future got rid of the fogging, but it took a day or so.

Decal solvents can cause Future to discolor as described. I don't use Solvaset, but I have experienced the problem with Micro Sol/Set. Usually occurs if you didn't let the Future fully cure. I now wait at least 48 hours before I decal over Future, especially if the humidity is high. Good news is the discoloration will pretty much disappear if you spray another coat of Future. Just be sure the decals are fully dried before you respray.

Water can do that to future if not fully cured as noted above by rjkplasticmod. Always best to let the wet coat dry 24 to 48 hrs prior to decalling.

Ever spill liquid on the kitchen floor after it's been recently mopped with future/water mix?
little white spots show up, especially on vynil floors.

Smile [:)] Ah, I didn't know that could be possible. Though it hasn't happened to me before since I never cleaned canopies with anything but water. I was told before hand to use white glue whenever gluing canopies or near to them.

So you mean you apply the Future. Let dry for a day. Then apply the decals then another coat of Future? That will do the trick? So what is this I read from a modeler that mixing Tamiya Flat base with Future did good to his Focke Wolf? How much is the mixture if you did that? How will it react then to the model and to the decals applied to it?

Well I would wait 2 days, especially in a humid climate, before applying decals and then at least one day for the decals to dry before the second coat of Future. I would be real cautious about mixing anything with Future. I don't even thin it, just airbrush it as it comes in the bottle. Unpredictable reactions can occur when you start mixing acrylic mediums. Tamiya flat base may work fine, but I've never tried it. If you want to experiment, do it on some scrap plastic, not your latest masterpiece!
