Ahh - just noticed something, I should have reversed Superman's S for you! Bang Head Everything looks good though, the super-bright finish looks right on an X- machine.

You say the yellow is too pale, I suppose the brightness of the NMF is actually showing through a little bit. Would you dare touch up the yellow with a paintbrush, or is that just asking for more trouble?

I'm not sure pale is the right description.. more that the yellow ink is not solid enough and NM is shiny thru like you said..

I'm thinking about trying to touch it up....still contemplating,,, lol Thanks again Vance! Toast

Ok,, I decaled last night... using the Monogram decals, and home made ones, that my Canadian buddy Vance helped with..

They came out ok,, hindsight, I shouldh have robbed decals from a newer kit for the stars n bars. Nose art came out well, just the yellow was a bit pale, but not due to anyones fault... It needs a white backing..

Comments, critiques... as always...[View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0][View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0][View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0][View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0]

The only factory decals are the stars n bars, the nose art, is from a company that makes this in 1/72, but my buddy Vance, retouched and brightened the colors for me.. Tail numbers and XP are my own.

Printed on decal paper using my office Xerox Phaser, it has solid inks( like wax )...

The "distressed " look of the tail numbers and XP are on purpose, as referance photos give the appearance that they have been scratched or something.. IMHO, I think ground crew, cleaing and polishing, wore down the numbers during cleaning...

Canopy coming soon...

Not sure, i think I've read some where that clear coats, future, or what have you, can dull the shine.. I think I might surf the forums more,, or hope someone reads this and gives a reply..

Decals are soon... WhistlingYes

Looking good - getting anxious to see the final product! With the Alclad, can you apply a coat of Future to seal it up & keep the fingerprints off? Or does that kill the finish? I've got a couple of kits that are going to need a NMF, and I'm trying to decide if I want to go this route (or Hawkeye's product) or chicken out & use straight silver paint.

ok, ended up with a boo-boo un the underside, glue dripping on the Allclad is bad JU-JU....sanded it out... reapplied the black,, all is well..

Allclad has been a learning experience..  some say its pretty tough,, I'm gonna say not so much.. handling of the plane in areas has worn the Allclad down, and it loves fingerprints.. Future advice,, use cloth gloves, or rubber gloves...

Good feature,, I discovered that reapplying it over it self, barly, if at all leaves a demarcation line,, I needed to touch up a few spots, including the sides from handling,, i misted it on,, and it left no mark to be able to see where the new paint was to the old paint is... very pleased with that... !

New pics.. update.. Landing gear doors on, boo-boos fixed.. machine guns installed.. I made them from 19g hypodermic needles, used a Dremel with a cut off wheel, sanded the edges, cleaned up the openings, the XP-47J had only 6 .50cals, 3 in each wing, and the stagger is differant than a standard P-47, as the center gun protrudes out more than the 2 outside guns, which are even to each other..

Enjoy,, and ass always... comments,,,[View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0][View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0][View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0][View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0]

Am working on the P-47H by Koster.  Definitely a different plane.  I love the Hemi idea in cars!!  LOL!

You should creep into the "auto" thread, run up the idea of an "all things Hemi" group build, then swoop in at the last minute with a P-47H!!!

Hey, I meant to mention something to you. I was watching TV a few nights ago, there was a Dodge commercial pushing the Hemi engine option, showing "hemi through the ages"... the first video clip they show was.... the XP-47 in flight!

you got a hemi in that thing?

Here's the rest of 'em:

http://www.inpayne.com/whatif/whatif.html

Many years ago, AmTech had proposed to do a series in 1/48 of the XP-47J, XP-47H and XP-72. Looked like they even had test shots (or at least prototypes) done. I sure wish someone would pick up that long-dropped ball and come out with those kits. Trumpeter? HobbyBoss? Tamiya?

I have built the XP-47H, yhe XP-72, and the XP-47J.  I have the P-47 In Action book that has pics in it of all these aircraft.  If I remember, the -47J had basic stars and bars and the cowling markings were black.

Seems fitting, wasn't Superman's creator actually a transplanted Canadian? Frank Schuster, right?? (No relation to Wayne & Schuster though...)
