Hercman, on the Frogfoot, it was all OOB except for some extra PE I threw onto the inside of the canopy to detail the inner face. And some resin Soviet Smart bombs on the pylons and the decals.

Oddman, to tell the truth I built that Hind around 1990 or so and don't recall any details of the build. Looking at it, I can see where I used filler on some seams and that the fit is not perfect, but I think a good portion of that goes back to my skills at that time as well. I do know I would like to build another one. Probably with a Cobra Company update to make a Hind F. I just love the look of those machines.

Me to.. my space was getting used up.. but I just made more room... son moved out, so his room now has some "stash",, and I made a gun cabinet, so the rifles are moved off the wall from the mancave,, and moved to the annex down the hall.. now I can add some shelving to the man cave..! Yes

Thanks...I didn't think the ordanace looked like Revell/Monogram stuff. I am going to have to pick that kit up. I wanted the Eduard kit but seeing how well yours turned out I may have changed my mind.

Lots of good stuff! Keep 'em coming! Always great to see those B-17s! Damn. You are right about those 109s. Excellent bang for the buck in that kit.

Another oldie of mine (about 20 years now) the 1/48 F-15A in IDF 1982 markings

One thing I have noticed on my old builds- nothing to do with the builds, but with the finish- using Testors Gloss and Dull coats in the decal process with Micor Set/Sol. There tend to be staining under the Dull Coat from the Mirco Sol/Set that becomes more noticeable as time passes. Especially on light color aircraft. Anybody else have old kits where this shows up?

Awesome thread with some really nice builds!

Love the old Revell1/48 Hind! With a little love, she builds up into a nice kit.

Dusty old Monogram Stuka...

...and Typhoon.

Don't know if this was originally a Revell kit but it's their 1/48 Fokker DVII.

sure do, Stik,,,,,,,,the pretty "yellow decal surround" on the Phantom Demo Bomber I posted is the reason I used such a small pic, lol, that was a Testors Gloss, decal, then Testors Gloss build

that staining, and the old Poly S "peeling problem" are the two main things that made me move "into the 90s" and use Future and Tamiya Flat Base concoctions,,,,,,,,,I wish I was smart enough to do one of each side by side back then,,,,,,I'd have a benchmark to show the difference when a new person asks about yellowing

and yes, I've also read that it's "all caused by nicotine",,,,,,,but, mine stained in my non smoking house,,,,,,after about,,,,,,,,,ohh,,,,only 15 years or so (the model is older than Miss Owl)

it's hard to build a collection when you have to "discard and replace" every decade or so,,,,,,,,,,,I think I have the technology and chemistry figured out now, though,,,,,,,,,,,I sure hope so, anyway,,,,,,,gettting to be too old a dog to keep learning new tricks

I had never heard of nicotine affecting models before Tarn. But considering what I have seen and heard about it doing to the interior of a smoker's house or car that does not suprise me. However, no one in my house smokes, and certainly no one does in my war room (the name of my man cave) or in the closed display case where those have been for the past almost 15 years.

And at the pace I build and complete kits these days, replacement builds of old kits when I have so many types yet unbuilt is not likely. Not to mention most of the decal sets I used are long OOP.

Have a nicotine story. Bought a 1/72 Italeri DC-3 on eBay and shortly after a Novo Boeing B117; from the same seller.

When the box came, both kits were co-mingled, it reeked so badly that I could not have it in the house. I put it all in a cotton pillowcase and put that in the dishwasher. It ruined the pillow case and the two kits still smell.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2590/4145886252_20e76a49f6_o.jpg

Revell didn't do a 1/48th Fokker D VII, but did one in 1/28th scale along with the 1/28th  Dr 1, Sopwith Camel, and SPAD XIII from the late 1950s...  They've all been re-released in various markings over the years, with the first re-releases being about 1962-65 time frame. Revell Germany also re-released them in the 90s, one SPAD being in Russian markings.

Monogram boulght the WW1 aircraft molds from Aurora back in the 70s and re-issed the ones they felt were most accurate, the Fokker D-VII being among them (Along with the SE 5A and Sopwith Camel) ...  I don't think Revell has done a re-box of the Mnogram release of the D-VII

Revell Germany has been issuing out those old Monogram/Aurora WWI kits. I have seen this one, the Camel, SE-5 and the Fokker Tri Plane so far.

That Hind is awesome!   Man, that build inspires me to get mine out of my own stash and get started.  Congratulations on a fine model; and kudos again to all the talented modelers displaying their great work here.

Funny that everyone seems to put down and pass on these kit, but from the amount of post here it seems like there is a lot of interest in them and you folks seem to make the kits better than some high dollar kits I have seen others build.

Nothing in particular to add just my two cents.

That  was what I was hoping for in starting this thread- to see what folks here have done with these often libeled kits. To paraphrase the Conan's 'riddle of steel', "What is the plastic, compared to the hand that builds it?"

So anyways, here is an original issue 1/48 F/A-18A with some parts taken from the later F/A-18C release to make a 1986 Libya Raider.

Well, I have several more Monogram builds but no pics of them (yet, Wink).  Meanwhile, just for a well-deserved bump, here's another view of an earlier post.  Best I can do for now. Smile

Sorry Hans... she's a RoG kit. So the DVII was originally a Monogram or Aurora mold?

Thanks for the compliments on the HInd folks! She took first place at the ValleyCon XX show last year so I'm awful proud of her! Toast
