Since this thread has resurfaced, with some interest, after nearly 6 years...and the old pics are long since gone, I went ahead and snapped a few more pics, and put them in place of the stupid kitty pics in the original post. So, they are there, if you care to see them!

I love your ladder and want to climb it...

Yes, unfortunately all I see is a kitty Kat.  But the one pic that remains is awesome fermis.  I really like how the whole project turned out!  And yes, I want your ladder! LOL!

 You want MY ladder?!!!

 A little bit of styrene, cut into strips and stretched sprue is all it takes! The sides of the ladder are 1 one piece each, I just bent them where it angles, these spots split, but not all the way through. A tiny dab of CA made them solid again.

This is the image I based the ladder off of. On my monitor, it is really close to scale. I estimated the top of the ladder with the top of the canopy and the height off the ground about even with the wheel, measured against the model, I got it close.

I do still have the simple drawing I did, I could drop that in an envelope if you want it.

ooks great.  The NMF looks very realistic.  You know, the British come up with some of the best airplanes on the planet, and some of the coolest ones.  But they have also come up with some of the strangest looking.  I was never quite sure which category the Lightning fits in.  Probably equal parts of both.

I believe I saw that same program a while back. I've always dug the Lightning, kinda ugly, looks like a pregnant fish! One of my favorites, alongside the Jaguar....would love to find one in 48th.

Hmmm, it has no props, but it suddenly intrigues me. (Just read an article about them in Flypast too.) Great job Fermis, the perfect NMF is obviously the result of the new airbrush... right?

Love it!  Sure wish I could do bare metal.  Yours looks awesome.

On a side note, was watching a Science Channel program last night where the host was taken up to 68000 feet in a two-seat Lightning.  He was showing the thin blue line of our atmosphere.  Before he went up he said they told him the max altitude was clasified but could get to around 80000 feet.  Something I read just now spoke about how a pilot took one to 88000 feet and intercepted a U2 in 1984.  Interesting aircradft, may have to build one one of these days.  Oh, and on the show last night, immediately after the plane left the ground he went verticle up to 18000 feet in seconds (according to the host).  Looked like fun.

Berny, that is decals around the canopy, a malor pain to cut off all the excess clear film. I think there was more clear film on the sheet than there was that had color on it!!!

Great looking build.  Did you use yellow decals around the canopy?  When I was stationed in Germany I talked with a RAF F-4 crew chief that used to work on the Lightning.  He said it was a mechanics nightmare.  To remove or work on the top engine the lower one had to be removed.

If you are developing a taste for strange but beautifully European birds, the Viggen is a cracker (& Swedish as well!!), shame the best kit available is the Airfix (ESCI) 1/48th - it's the best simply because it's the only thing available 1/48.
