I am building the 1/72 airfix dauntless kit. I am finishing it as an sbd-5, Captain Bell USMC VMSB-241 of 1944. It is painted in the navys tri color scheme. I dont understand something in the painting instructions though. They tell you (according to Humbrol paints) to paint the bottom of the plane 34(white), The middle portion of the fuselage 144(intermediate blue), the upper fuselage is painted 104(oxford blue). Now the part i dont understand, The upper wings and elevator portion of tail is said to be painted 104 + 135 (oxford blue + satin varnish). I thought in the tri-color scheme that the upper fuselage was supposed to be the same color as the wings. If it is supposed to be the way the kit suggests (maybe for weathering?) do i mix them or put one over the other. Any help appreciated. (i also noticed this varnish mixing thing in my airfix kit of the j2f-6 duck.)
