That's a pretty good mustang! Too bad whenever i paint yellow it never comes out like that...! Don't worry about the small details |
i used tamiya acrylic "lemon yellow". it works well after about 8 coats!
QUOTE: Hey saltydog, I am in the process of building an F-51D. If it is ok with you, I'll use your model to work from.
I've been building models for a while and I this is the first P/F-51D.
I am enthused just to get something completed so I can post it here |
looking forward to seeing your work as well! thanks
QUOTE: Pretty cool stuff you got there, Salty Dog. And its a nice P-51 too. What scale is that again?
1/48 tamiya kit. excellent fit everywhere but the belly intake. even that is not bad.
QUOTE: Did you have any trouble with the natural metal finish? |
did i ever? no masking what so ever!! you have to paint the painted areas first (ie. hood) then mask them, then paint you metal finish. very frustrating!! the P-51D is the most amazing looking airplane i ever laid eyes on so im gonna do more, but next time im gonna try alcad II (i cant remember how its spelled). i here you can mask it with better success.
QUOTE: re the decals, why didn't you go for the chequer? |
i did, it was disasterous to say the least!! maybe next time. i was running out of patience about this time and just wanted to get the off my hobby table and strung up from my cieling!
QUOTE: And as long as you had fun, forget 'em!
amen to that! i did enjoy most of this build. cant wait to finish something else and share it. the camera thing is really fun. that could develope into a little sub hobby so to speak.
thanks for the compliments fellows. stanby for many more photos hopefully. this is very encouraging fellows. thanks!
