That looks like a P-51!!! Good job! Don't worry about the incorrect markings, that's not what this hobby is about. When it comes right down to it, 1/10 of 1% of the population will know what's wrong. Everyone else will say "wow, a P-51'... And as long as you had fun, forget 'em!

Saltydog, I totally agree with Jeff, that is a very fine model......I can't wait to post some finished pics of my work as well, but have yet to even finish a model!! LOL

looks pretty cool from this side of the pond!! i think the weathering around the gun ports actually looks really good!!
re the decals, why didn't you go for the chequer? the first time i did something like that (large cowling decals), i was pleasantly surprised by the results!!
anyway, thanks for sharing, and i like your array of equipment, even though i thought that thing was just a fax machine![:0]

Looks like a Mustang to me!
Olive Drab anti glare panels were used too, the gunports look okay to me, the exhaust looks like they got a hold of some bad gas! All in all, A fine job.

The pics came out great! You stregnthen my resolve to get a good digital camera. That thing looks better than my first model, which also happened to be a P-51. Did you have any trouble with the natural metal finish?

Pretty cool stuff you got there, Salty Dog. And its a nice P-51 too. What scale is that again?

Btw, you could try running your digital images through a PhotoShop program in your PC to crop them a little and reduce the number of pixels (to about 600-900 pixels). That way, your images dont blow up too large when you click on them. If you want you can send them to me via e-mail and I could crop them for you. Hope this helps.

Looks great, saltydog ! The person that builds the kit always knows where there is room for improvement, and its rarely seen as "incorrect" by anyone viewing the model. Identifying the areas that are most important to you, learning how to successfully repeat techniques, and above all having fun are the most important parts of modelling to me.

I've been building models for a while and I this is the first P/F-51D.

I am enthused just to get something completed so I can post it here

It's easy to be kind cause it a great peice of work.

You have nothing to be ashamed of...that is on good looking P51!
As for your camera, take a look on the menu screen and it should give you different sizes. You can go to 640 X 480 which is pretty good or even smaller.

I wouldn't have noticed if you didn't mention it (besides, there comes a time when accuracy simply costs too much)! Keep up the good work and i hope to see more pics from your new camera again soon!

That NMF looks really good to me. Which kit is this? I'd like to do a P-51D... I just hope it comes out as nice as yours.

this is a 1/48 tamiya kit.

i used tamiya acrylic "lemon yellow". it works well after about 8 coats!

1/48 tamiya kit. excellent fit everywhere but the belly intake. even that is not bad.

did i ever? no masking what so ever!! you have to paint the painted areas first (ie. hood) then mask them, then paint you metal finish. very frustrating!! the P-51D is the most amazing looking airplane i ever laid eyes on so im gonna do more, but next time im gonna try alcad II (i cant remember how its spelled). i here you can mask it with better success.

i did, it was disasterous to say the least!! maybe next time. i was running out of patience about this time and just wanted to get the off my hobby table and strung up from my cieling!
