Looks better than most of my work. I wouldn't have known the markings were wrong if you hadn't said so. Who can keep track of all those ponies.

That's a pretty good mustang! Too bad whenever i paint yellow it never comes out like that...! Don't worry about the small details

i used tamiya acrylic "lemon yellow". it works well after about 8 coats!

QUOTE: Hey saltydog, I am in the process of building an F-51D. If it is ok with you, I'll use your model to work from.
I've been building models for a while and I this is the first P/F-51D.
I am enthused just to get something completed so I can post it here

looking forward to seeing your work as well! thanks

QUOTE: Pretty cool stuff you got there, Salty Dog. And its a nice P-51 too. What scale is that again?

1/48 tamiya kit. excellent fit everywhere but the belly intake. even that is not bad.

QUOTE: Did you have any trouble with the natural metal finish?

did i ever? no masking what so ever!! you have to paint the painted areas first (ie. hood) then mask them, then paint you metal finish. very frustrating!! the P-51D is the most amazing looking airplane i ever laid eyes on so im gonna do more, but next time im gonna try alcad II (i cant remember how its spelled). i here you can mask it with better success.

QUOTE: re the decals, why didn't you go for the chequer?

i did, it was disasterous to say the least!! maybe next time. i was running out of patience about this time and just wanted to get the off my hobby table and strung up from my cieling!

QUOTE: And as long as you had fun, forget 'em!

amen to that! i did enjoy most of this build. cant wait to finish something else and share it. the camera thing is really fun. that could develope into a little sub hobby so to speak.

thanks for the compliments fellows. stanby for many more photos hopefully. this is very encouraging fellows. thanks!Big Smile [:D]

I wouldn't have noticed if you didn't mention it (besides, there comes a time when accuracy simply costs too much)! Keep up the good work and i hope to see more pics from your new camera again soon!

You have nothing to be ashamed of...that is on good looking P51!
As for your camera, take a look on the menu screen and it should give you different sizes. You can go to 640 X 480 which is pretty good or even smaller.

Looks great, saltydog ! The person that builds the kit always knows where there is room for improvement, and its rarely seen as "incorrect" by anyone viewing the model. Identifying the areas that are most important to you, learning how to successfully repeat techniques, and above all having fun are the most important parts of modelling to me.
Looking forward to more pics of planes !

Pretty cool stuff you got there, Salty Dog. And its a nice P-51 too. What scale is that again?

Btw, you could try running your digital images through a PhotoShop program in your PC to crop them a little and reduce the number of pixels (to about 600-900 pixels). That way, your images dont blow up too large when you click on them. If you want you can send them to me via e-mail and I could crop them for you. Hope this helps.

The pics came out great! You stregnthen my resolve to get a good digital camera. That thing looks better than my first model, which also happened to be a P-51. Did you have any trouble with the natural metal finish?

Hey Salty,
Looks like a Mustang to me!
Olive Drab anti glare panels were used too, the gunports look okay to me, the exhaust looks like they got a hold of some bad gas! All in all, A fine job.

Hey Dog,

That looks like a P-51!!! Good job! Don't worry about the incorrect markings, that's not what this hobby is about. When it comes right down to it, 1/10 of 1% of the population will know what's wrong. Everyone else will say "wow, a P-51'... And as long as you had fun, forget 'em!

All the best,

this is my digital camera.

this is my 4 in 1 buisiness machine.

these are photograghs of my first finished build complete with historically incorrect markings(the yellow and orange checkered nose decals were more than i could handle), over done exhaust and gun stains, forgot to put the pilot in before i glued on the canopyBanged Head [banghead], broken antenna, the anti glare hood paint was supposed to be black. but other than that, she's a master pieceLaugh [(-D]. have fun guys, i have a good since of humor. later.

ps. does anybody know how to make my pictures smaller when you click on them to view them
