So sorry to hear about your health issues, and  the 'accident'. I was saddened (for you) to see the abrupt end and read your explanation.

You do amazing work, James. All the time you've spent documenting is truly appreciated. And I do sincerely hope you have a chance for a restart when time permits. I had no idea anything like this was available, anywhere.

I think grand-kids will happen in not too long from my significant others side. I am already considering strategies to make the basement off-limits without escort (me) to them in the future. Thinking something like a doggie gate, in steel, with a prison cell type lock.

That would have got me in real trouble with my sister - and that is something which is just not worth it. A severe shouting at parade ground level was enough. He fled in tears!

James, glad to see you back!   I think I might have been tempted to return the nephew in the same condition as he left the model.

I have been having health issues with my heart again. I have been building, but did get a little burnt out.

Also my little nephew got into my workroom and in "playing" with this build managed to turn it into a pile of scrap. I have to start again, so I am ordering replacement parts from germany and once I have all 140 issues in a box I will start again.

I am also hoping to be able to get my hands on electronic copies of the technical manuals for this bird which should eneable me to add lots of wiring etc.

I will start a new thread for this build. and also for the zero, which, again is going into a box until I get all the parts.

However I am also starting/started a new partwork which is a 1/2 scale samurai armour set. I am covering this for an internet magazine (not this one, but will supply copy if asked) and will take 14 months to complete. This will take priority as it will be pubished and is a fantastic bit of kit.

Builders will soon be able to build the huge zero. Be warned..... IT IS NOT AS EASY AS YOU THINK. THis also will take a couple of years too. If you would like to see a copy of one of the download instruction sets then PM me with your email and I will email the PDF file to you.

These models are expensive and you pay monthly for the parts sending by post. For a partwork veteran like myself I will always help those who start these as there are easier ways of building these things than the instructions tell you, also you will learn new skills too!

Have been wondering what happened to this and the other large subscription builds on the forum.  Have you run into a problem, or has it just been a case of burn out.  (Been there done that)  As it has been over a year now, I thought I would at least ask.  Everything looked great up until you stopped.

It seems that this cockpit interior will go on for a while. There seems to be lots to do and detail and with the parts being small it is slow and painstaking work. I am not in a rush to build but prefer to get it right by going slowly and taking a couple of days between issues to absorb what I have done and plan the next one by translating the text and looking at the pictures!

more detail work on the next issue and I am pretty sure that the radio and radio racks are coming up in the next few issues.

The Zero partwork has just been released here in the UK and I have subscribed. I have the first 4 parts and am waiting until the next 4 parts arrive in February before starting.

Of course I have 18 issues from Italy (4 and a half months) to play with - an I have been doing that. If I can manage it I will increase my subscription to 2 so I can do a fully skinned model and a frame model.

Of course there are other models which I would love to build - not all aircraft -but the aircraft I want to do are these:

ZoukeI-Mura 1/32 Shinden

ZoukeI-Mura 1/32 Focke-Wulf Ta152H-1

ZoukeI-Mura 1/32 Douglas A-1H Skyraider

and their up and coming P51 Mustang.

These are like gold dust here in the UK, so I will have to look to the USA I think. First I have to save up for them.

it is a full frame metal kit (etched brass). and indeed, up to at least issue 32 is cockpit detail parts. the radios look really good.

I would like to also do wiring in the cockpit too, so if anyone out there as diagrams or photos of Stuka "G" cockpit wiring then please contact me.

We are now starting the cockput components and start with the mount for the pilots instruments.

At least up to build 32 are all components that fit into the cockpit and even at 1/16 some are small and I have to use my close up lenses.

Some of these parts here will have extra detailing put on in the next build

Not so hard this issue. Glue some fireboard together to start with.

Once dry sand it so that  any ridges and nubs are gon and it is smooth

Bend the fixing straps to shape, starting with the curve at the front of the tank. These photos show dry fits. The actual gluing makes sure that the straps are in the correct place and alignment.

Put the four piece filler cap together

Stick it onto the top of the oil tank

Another update for you all

Issue 19 deals with the firewall and aft bulkhead.

I am not fitting these parts just yet, despite instructions as I want the space to be able to put in the bomb sight, any oil or fuel tanks and room to get my large fingers in to the gunners section for fitting the parts.

Here they are removed from the fret and bent to shape. All I have to do is prime and paint them and fix when ready. I have done a couple of dry fits, but they will have to be glued on properly to remain seated. For those who will end up building this if or when it is released here the fit of these two parts does depend on the accuracy of your frame build up to this point. Any bending or misalignment of the frame will result in these two parts not fitting properly so builders MUST take care with the alignment and fit of the cockpit frame and look for a 100% accuracy.

Issue 18 parts

Along with issue 18 we also have parts from issue 1 and the clear acitate sheet that forms the glass for the dials from issue 6.

THe build

That is the basic build.

THis is how it looks all together With a couple of extra coats of paint. It is unfinished at the moment there are lots of little buttons & levers etc to add. I Won't be adding those until prior to installing it into the cockpit. Those who deal with these type of parts recognise that they will probably get broken off at some point and lost so what's the use tempting fate.

There is a part missing from the parts photo. On emptying the packet a loose bit of tiny brass tubing escaped and bounced off the table and onto the floor where the under bench parts goblin was seen to dissapear with it. Once I can get onto my hands and knees with a bright light I may be able to retreieve it, else it is a replacement issue 18 for the part!

I will update this with more photos later on in the build.

Here we go with issue 17 build

This time we put some longitudnal struts on the frame on each side.

Two of the struts have to be bent so I saved them until last. The rest were easy to install and went into place without any problems. I would recommend removing them from the frame on a hard surface to avoid bending them.

As I said before, the parts that I had to bend I saved while last. The magazine has you putting them in first but I thought that it made more sense to work from the bottom up and so worked the instructions backwards. this actually made it easier for me to put he parts in place.

The struts that needed bending I bent carefully dry fitting multiple times to make sure that the bends were done correctly and it all went together with no problems.

There are some more struts to come at some point, but the next few issues looks like panels and control boxes for inside the cockpit.

Once painted RLM66 this will be installed in the cockpit in the rear section.

I have a few issues to post now. I am sorry for the delay but I have not been too well and my ISP and I have been having connection problems. Everything is solved now (I hope!) and here we go with another few issues.

One other thing that no one has mentioned is that file size of the picture relates to bandwidth usage.  It isn't necessarily the resolution of the photo though that is part of it.  Thus making a photo that is slightly smaller and much more compressed as a file size could be part of the answer.

It is possible to have decent photos in 1280 x 1024 resolution for about 120k or so.  There is a point where the picture degrades due to too much compression.  Thus using that given resolution a file size of 500k will look great, but one of say 100k might be just as good and use 1/5 of the bandwidth.
