I'm no poser...
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, February 2, 2004 2:54 PM
Just to prove that I am actually working on something and I'm not just a unbuilt kit junkie... here it is. Sorry about the poor picture quality. It's Academy's 1/72 P-47 "Razorback. It's ready for masking, primer, then paint. I'm getting ready to future and mask the canopy, and the landing gear is being painted and readied to go on after the paint is done...
Go easy it's my first serious model... a long way from the unpainted balls of plastic and glue from my childhood. Back then it would only take me an evening to put them together, and probably less time to destroy them.

poser
n 1: a person who habitually pretends to be something he is not [syn: "poseur"]
n 2: A “wannabee"; not hacker slang, but used among
crackers, phreaks and "warez". Not as negative as "lamer" or
"leech". Probably derives from a similar usage among punk-rockers
and metalheads, putting down those who "talk the talk but don't walk
the walk".

No, my friend, you are definitely not a poser! Wink [;)]
I take back almost everything I ever said about you in the past.

Good looking start there Adam. Can't wait to see the next steps.

You know, though, now that you've posted the pic, you have to finish it. Big Smile [:D]

Speaking of pics, that's a great shot of the B2. Did you take that yourself?

Very nice! One question: How are you going to finish it? Bare metal, or camo?

Keep in touch, I'm looking forward to more pics.

Looks great, AJACKETSFAN. And, just like Stinger said, you KNOW you're gonna have to post a picture of it when it's FINISHED!!Big Smile [:D]

Err. Why were you called a poser? Not that it's really my business, just curious. Nice lookin' Razorback you got going there. I wish I could get some of mine looking half that good.

*a thought* I hope I'm not branded a poser just because I don't have any pictures to post. I don't even have a digital camera yet and if not posting pictures is all it takes to brand someone a poser on this site then... hmmm... That's just weak that someone would do that to anyone for whatever reason, period.

Looking good JacketsFan!

I remember those 4 1/2 hour projects, in days gone by, and as ironic as it may seem, now days it seems I must MAKE myself finish a project, as the seven partially built models in my work room demonstrate.

You won't be like that however, and will have some cool completion pics for us in a couple days, right? :-)

Take care, thanks for the update,
Frank

No thenothing nobody on this sight would ever do that! It was kind of an inside joke between a good buddy of mine and I. Don't feel bad, this isn't my camera, it's my dad's I had to borrow it so I could take some pix of my model. By the way, sorry you didn't make it into my last post I must have been typing mine as you typed yours... I surely wasn't trying to treat you like "thenothing"Big Smile [:D]Wink [;)]

Glad it wasn't someone from this site. That's kind of why I found it a bit odd. Everyone I've come across here seems to be pretty laid back and I have yet to see any flamewars or anything like that here.

That's okay about me not making it into your last post. Yeah, my screen-name is a bit odd but that too is an inside joke between me and some friends. Big Smile [:D]

Does it have to do with "The Neverending Story"

I really liked that movie as a kid. I sympathised with the main character, as I was a habitual reader myself.

Where in OK are you?

Also, Great start on that Jug, keep borrowing the camera and posting pics. I should have a digicam myself soon, so I'll be a poster, not a poser Smile [:)]

No, it doesn't have anything to do with that movie although I can see why most people would think that. Yeah, I too liked that movie as a kid, for pretty much the same reasons as you.

It basically has to do with some old friends of mine that used to say things like "nothing's gonna keep me from..." this or that (asking a girl out they don't have a chance with, drinking the last beer, etc.). I would always ask them "What if I stopped you?". They would say something back like "Well, then you'd be nothing" or "the nothing". Pretty stupid but we all thought it was funny.

I'm in the same woods you are, Tulsa. Been living in and around here for 32 years now. Whoops, just gave away my age...Blush [:I] Just got back into modeling a few months ago and have yet to stop this time. Do you know of any other hobby shops besides Action Hobbies, Wings & Things, and Hobby Lobby? I've been out of the loop for several years and these are the only stores I know that still sell hobby supplies here in T-town. Is Ted's Hobbies still around?

Sorry to de-rail this thread, AJACKETSFAN. It happens.

Hey!

That looks like a pretty clean build to me! It's amazing how fast it will go once you get the paint on. Have fun!!

Thanks everyone. Pixilater I wish I could say the primer was on... the flash just gave it that illusion... unfortunately, I haven't yet used my airbrush, that's the next hurdle. Hopefully it'll be a quarter the quality of the paint jobs you all do.

Frank, yup that's how it went... little strings of glue all over the place... finger prints all over the clear parts... those were the days...Wink [;)]

No guesses on where the B-2 is?Tongue [:P]

Hmm, I don't know about Teds Hobbies. There's a Hobby Town USA at 71st & Memorial, The Hussar (they are mostly reference books and soldier type figs, neat shop though) There's a pretty good one at 41st and Sheridan, and one at 56th or so and Lewis. I hear there's one in Broken Arrow, but I haven't been there.

The best one though is in Owasso. Top Shelf Models, they're a plasitc place, not rc or anything like that. They carry just about every kind of paint you can think of, all kinds of tools, reference books, scratchbuilding supplies, aftermarket decals, photoetch, resin, all sorts of stuff for armor, cars and planes. They've got thousands of kits, it's a great shop. You should check them out if you get a chance.

I'll have to check those places out. Thanks for that info. I'll definitely be checking out Top Shelf because I have a really hard time finding some paints at the other stores I mentioned. The other stuff you mentioned about it makes it sound like a gold mine for plastic model building, so I'll be heading there pretty soon I'm sure.

I think Ted's Hobbies is (or used to be) over at Utica Square, or some where around there (can't fully remember). My older brother and I would sometimes go there but they were mostly train oriented than anything else from what I can remember. Most stores here seem to be mostly RC and train related more than anything else. I've heard the one in BA isn't all that great but that's just form what I've heard so I really can't say since I haven't been there myself, either.

Again, thanks for that info. Hey, whereabouts in T-town are you? I live in that neighborhood back behind Action Hobbies and Ford Audio, off of 51st near Memorial (Regency Park). Kind of weird living across the street form a massive cemetary, and more noise than I'm used to, but it's home now. My wife tells me I'll get used to it, but it's still a lot more noisy than I remember it being over here. Maybe it's just me.

You know, Sam Kennison is buried in that cemetary.

I'm at 51st and Harvard, almost directly across the street from the Hobby Lobby. Check out Top Shelf as soon as you can, you won't be dissapointed.

That Teds may still be there, but I'm not sure, I don't get out to Utica Square that often. I'll check the phone book later.

Yep, I remember the funeral too. I wasn't there but I remember seeing pieces of it on TV. I can even remember when he used to be a Preacher. I remember one of the local stations (2, 6, or 8) did a thing on him in the late 70s (or early 80s) when he was still a preacher, and I thought he was kind of funny to watch then.

Wow, you're just up the street from us then. My wife, the kids, and I are in that Hobby Lobby quite a bit since we moved over here. It's kind of nice being more centrally located than we used to be.
Yeah, I'll be checking out Top Shelf this weekend most likely (weather and wife permitting Wink [;)]). I kind of know where it is but haven't been out that way in a while. Souldn't be too hard to find.

I think Ted's is gone. I didn't see a listing in the phone book so I'm guessing it's gone. I usually don't go to Utica Square either. I can't even remember the last time I was there.

Well it's really coming together... the gear is painted, and waiting to be glued on after painting. I dipped the canopy in future and allowed it to cure, I'll be trying to mask it tonight... painting will occur shortly there after. Thanks to everyone for your kind comments... I'll post some more pix as soon as I can.

The B2 was photographed at the Air Force Museum at WPAFB in Dayton, OH in the Cold War hangar. I was there on dedication day (Dec 17th?) with my family.

So what does my 5 points get me?

Well, the B-2 has rails around it... I'm going to say its the stress-tester now at Wright-Patterson... and I know what you mean by slapping together a model. I feel angry at myself for building Monogram's F-4J (unpainted, yet!) in 15 minutes, on Christmas morning. Oh well...

Madda, it's kind of on hold for a little while... probably until the weather gets better and I can spray outside... or until I get a spray booth set up. As for Max, I do need to get his picture back up for a while... glad you like him. He was 90lbs. and all skin and bones when we found him behind a fast food resturaunt about a year and a half ago. Now he's 136lbs. and the vet wants him on a diet. He's the best dog I've ever owned!!

5.0Lady, glad to see you back on the forum... haven't seen you for a while. I was out at Wright-Pat as you can see from my sig. pic. (the B-2 is AWESOME). How's the Rosie situation going? Hope you found what you needed.

Mike, b6dan, you got it that's where it's at... as for the 5 points... that and 1.05 will get you a cup of coffee.
