For "scale" effect I think flat black paint looks just right for 1/48th and smaller!

The sandpaper would definitely give you the right finish, but I think the paper would look too thick?

What about adding talc or other fine poweder to your black paint, and then brushing it on?

Intersting topic, something I've never tried ...

I wonder if a small strip of like 600 or 1200 grit sandpaper glued onto the surface would work?

I've had some great results using masking tape to replicate the 'step' areas on my 1/72 Leclerc Main Battle Tank. The masking tape was thin enough, not too rough and easily 'sealed' into place with liquid glue. I'm sure it would work well on aircraft too, particularly at larger scales...

On modern aircraft, there are usually some rough surfaces for maintenance. How should I create that?? Thank you.Big Smile [:D]
