 I may be making this harder than what it is but I'm going to ask this question again anyhow. How do you get photos posted like you did onto the reply in the forum? Let me know and I'll post a couple of pictures of what I'm building. Thanks a mil.

Don't get too thick with plaster. Keep it as thin as possible....a little thicker in some areas, just to vary the terrain a bit. About a 1/4" is almost too much. Allow it to set for a couple days, that way if you do get any cracks, they can be filled in.

 I took your advice and modified it a bit. I hate wood working so heres what I did. I bought a shadow 16x20 shadow box at hobby lobby on sale so that gave me the "box" with a natural wood finish. I took the glass out of it and reinstalled the inner side walls of the box. I will probably get some acrylic glass and get it cut to shape for the sides. I have the number to a guy that does glass work so I have that covered. Now I just have to insert a 1/2" piece of plywood in the 16x20 dimensions and put the plaster or dry wall mud you were talking about. I just have to do some research on German airfields and apply them to the base. Man thanks for the tip. Any other details I need to know?

I will have a few more questions on the case the closer I get to being done with my 109. I'm almost ready to close the fuselage up after I finish figuring out a way to fit the instrument panel and cockpit floor into it. Every time I get into cockpit and engine mods this always happens no matter what. My first 109 project was a 1/48 scale Bf109G-10. I REALLY went for broke there. I mixed an Aires engine with a Verlinden engine update set because the Aires engine looked ALOT better. What a mess that was! That thing nearly took a powered flight by hand into the trash can several times before I managed to put that together and looking back it looked good from a person that didn't know anything about 109's. The engine detail and the paint job distracted alot of folks from the obvious flaws that were there. This time I have really taken the time to hide some of the flaws that are occurring with this one.   Also I'm not mixing engine / cockpit detail kits on this one either. It has been alot more fun to build as a result.  I do have one question though. How do I post photos from my computer to here anyways. It's probably right under my nose and I'm not looking hard enough for the attachment device but I don't see anything that would allow me to post pictures. Anyway let me know and I will post a couple. Thanks! I used 1/2" plywood with crown molding trim (scrap stuff I had laying around), and drywall "mud" for the "concrete" and terrain.

You can see the raw spackle here, I smoothed out the hard surface, and pressed in the expansion joints with a putty knife. I left the surounding terrain a little lumpy.

I airbrushed the "concrete" a few different shades of grey, and threw in a little tan and green as well. A few shades of tan/brown for the terrain. (sorry for the poor lighting)

I did a black/raw umber wash over the concrete and thinned black enamel oil drips and puddles.

Finished off the terrain with stuff from "Woodland Scenics" (model RR, static grass, rocks, shrubs)

I built "Mild and Bitter" for the son of one of her pilots (he also piloted "Flak Bait" on a few occassions). The base was stained and laquered before presentation to the new owner.

There are companies advertising custom display cases in FSM magazine, but they are not cheap.

....or...take the measurements to a local glass shop, and have em cut you some 1/8" glass. Put it together with clear silicone.

This one cost me about $20 (including silicone), for a 1/48 B-26....pretty close in size to a 1/24 fighter.

Still no luck with the case here either. Will keep looking. The 1/24  kit is pretty good. Judging from all I have read it seems like the 1/32 version of the Bf109 series is alot like the 1/24th scale kit in the Trumpeter line up. So far I've got the usual problems of ejector markings on the inside of the cockpit and engine fit problems. I am using the Verlinden cockpit / firewall update kit (which I had a problem fitting the sidewalls of the Verlinden cockpit so I used the existing walls of the kit and added the details from the Verlinden set) I managed to obtain a set of gun barrels from Master Model (this....was well worth the 13 bucks I spent on them!) I also obtained canopy masks and spinner spiral masks from a guy in Poland. I also have the usual weighted tires and the seatbelt kit from Eduard. I'm not the master modeler that I wished I'd be but I feel like I hold my own. I just have to work on my weathering techniques a little.  I hope to post some pictures of it pretty soon. Now tell me about that F4 of yours.

If you can find something nice in that size display case, please let us know as I've been searching for one for 2 years with no success...

How's that kit?  I've been tempted ever since I built their 1/32 Bf109F-4 a year ago.
