Thanks for the info. that is unusual. I have seen larger work numbers before, but always on the tail. Odd that its only on one side as well. makes for a different scheme.

Well, strange thing is that it was actually on both sides, I guess Revell didn't see this shot or was too cheap to produce two sets.  I also find it sad that Horst Petzchler passed away 5/16/2011, Wichita KS.  Thanks again for all the nice comments. Toast

No, here is a pic of the actual plane and a link to the story about it/pilot.  As you can see, for whatever reason they put the last 4 numbers of the wk# 130297 in larger size on it.

Here is a better pic of the interesting paint mottling on the tail and the number.  You'll notice the tail wheel on the real plane is much taller which was typical for many late G series.

I briefly considered it for the 2nd one as the 1st had the too narrow canopy. I discarded the idea due to the sparse cockpit as I plan on giving the 2nd build to the LHS for their display shelves and I am using it to use up some custom mixed paint that was starting to dry up. The last bit put me under some time constraints, so I just did some minimal detailing to the pit and hoped for the best. The canopy on this build (2nd) fit just fine as far as the width, but still had the issue at the joint that looks like it can be filled with white glue and paint.

I am wondering if this may be a problem that has been addressed as stuff can sit for a very long time in my LHS. The 2nd was recently purchased and recently stocked so it may have been fixed or maybe I got lucky. As far as the open canopy I would think that the biggest thing it would need over a well built closed version is the arm that held the canopy open. The canopy's shape seems to work as a magnifier and if, lol more like when, I build another I plan on detailing the pit because of this.

So far I have built two of these that are into the painting stages. The canopy fit seemed to vary on both of them. One was pretty horrible and much too narrow. The other one had a fit that was acceptable. They both were a touch sub par at the joint between the front and main sections. To me the one problem area is the upper rear of the cockpit that has a step seam when everything else is lined up. Minus that and the small issue at the canopy on the one, I would say this is a very nice kit, especially for beginners.

Yours looks very nice Reasoned, and I hope your next one has the good fit of the canopy that my second one has, I was really surprised at the difference between the two kits.

You are spot on Big Dog regarding the canopy being too narrow (as it was on this kit) and the joint between the two canopies.  There is only so much you can do with white glue to address the joint and nothing much with a too narrow canopy.  Thus next time I build this, it's open canopy for me!  Did you by chance try to build this with an open canopy?  If I do (given the sparse interior detail) i'd consider an AM cockpit for it.

First off I like 109's. Secondly I like the F-K models and thirdly that is a bad A build! Anything G-10 and later really gets my attention. I like!

I like the weathering and the paint, especially the mottling, on this one. The WWII stuff ain't really my thing (with the odd exception), but this one got my attention. Nicely done!   ....and a neat bit of history on it, too. Always like it when builders include that along with their projects.

1/48 Revell Bf 109G-10 'Yellow 5'

This kit was done as  Feldwebel Horst Petzschler's Bf 109G-10 " Yellow 5" flown from 10./JG51 to Bulltofta, Sweden just before the end of the war.  Interesting story is that this plane was apparently not his but he took it from the fighter row and "escaped" to Sweden to surrender before the Soviets came crashing in. At any rate a VERY nice, easy kit (not happy with the canopy) if I were to build it again (and I most certainly will given the price and fit) I would open the canopy, doesn't fit well.
