Academy 1/48 P38M Night Lightning

Calling this one finished, not a terrible kit but nothing to rave about either. My biggest complaint would be the gear bays and doors.Very poor fit and lack of positive location for the doors. I did scratch in a last minute landing light on the nose gear and decided to leave off the rockets and just have the bare rails. The variations in the black do'nt show well in the pics but it is there. Warts and all I'm actually pretty pleased with it,  cheers Trey

Hey, I like it Trey!  Is that black enamel or acrylic?  Either way, I'd say you've done a really nice job.

Looks great to me Trey.  Black is tough to pull off, but you managed to do it. ...and the Academy P-38 isn't a walk in the park either from what I hear.

Looks like a good build to me. I always like those sinister looking black nightfighters!

Nice looking machine TREYZX10R, how does the Academy kit handle the radar-man's office? I had to scratch a lot of goodies for my Revellogram kit. (I also left the rockets off, didn't even use the rails!)

TREYZX10R,

Great Job, I've always loved the Lightnings. I know this is not your fault but did you suspect that the red decals were a little opaque when you first started? I've always ran into this problem when I use the kits issued decals when there is a scheme that has a very dark color involved like Black, Dark Gray or Dark Green.

Again Great Job

Big thanks for all the positive feedback from all! Gary its all ModelMaster enamel.Vance the Radar area is pretty stark as is the whole office! Cuda I was worried about the decals ,run into it on others as well. The colors are also off on the prop blade decals they are'nt yellow on the real one. Aside from ordering a/m decals just opted to take a chance, was more worried they would split apart or silver real bad.

Looks good.....takes me back memory lane....

I converted a Revell kit to a M when I was kid (mainly because all I had at the time was black paint!)

....working my way up the airbrush learning curve......
