Posted by shermanfreak on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 10:25 PM
Greetings members of the Wingy Thingy Forum Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]

Bet you never thought you'd see this old Treadhead post something in here on your hallowed turf. Wink [;)]Wink [;)]

Anyways, I see that your forum too has a plethora of sticky Group Builds. We're having a little dialogue on this subject and would like to have your input if you would.
Here's the link and we'd certainly like to hear from you.

He just wants to up the post count in the armor forum by tricking us to post there... Wink [;)]

Actually, the points raised in that thread are pretty good, given the nature of Common Kits..., er, uh, Group Builds, as ya'll call it here...

the darkside raises many good points. but if we went with concrete dates to begin and end newbies would miss oportunities to join, me for an example, i would have not had the opportunity to join in on the ph gb. granted something else would come up in the future but the interest may not be there. for some gb a finish date is in order (d-day etc) but i think by closing off some of these builds you may exclude and maybe alienate some of the newcomers to the forum. you would in effect tarnish this family's warm and excepting nature. as it stands now anyone who becomes a family member is allowed to take a shot at building in a gb, example even though the 109 build is older some recent newcomers have shown interest in building for it.

mind you these are only thoughts that poped in when i read the topic in the armor forum but this is a possibility. personally i believe gb would benifit from some type of end date just so those involved would finish the project at hand. i just think it better if the individual gb decides if an end date is proper.

just my My 2 cents [2c] if the forum decides to go with concrete start and end dates i of course will follow the will of the descision. after all it is the build itself that is my interest and i wouldnt join a gb without a personal interest in the subject.

I like the idea of an end date, as we all need to have deadlines......but as for start dates, I agree with Joe, man if you can knock out a 109 in a week, and post the pics by deadline, I say go for it. And I like the fact that the newbies get an opportunity to join a GB.

shermanfreak....

Your group build posts in Armor are huge-- anywhere from 10- 90 pages long....if you end up putting these in a separate forum, you'll lose out on all those posts ahead of us Wink [;)]

The time limitations of a group build can be a little off putting.

What with family and work comitments, I'm lucky if I can manage 3-4 hours modelling a week. If you throw in only really having the opportunity to airbrush at the weekends, my average build time works out at around 6 months.

I've joined the current 262 GB with a half built aircraft, as I know I would never get one from box to shelf in the time available.

Just my tuppence worth.
