I DO have the Revell P-39 and was dry fitting some of the parts before putting it on the "TO DO " shelf. It seems OK and I am used to doing some filliing and sanding. BUT nnot too much.

 

The new technology of kits is a wonder to behold and makes modeling a LOT MORE FUN and enables us to crank out more kits.

I am getting ready to take the plunge with KITTY HAWK as I have my eye on that 1/32 Kingfisher. When I see a good price I'll go for it and post my impressions here!! on this Forum.

I am currently building this kit. It is the Special Hobby mold reboxed for Revell Germany, as already stated. It is not a bad kit but you will need some modeling skills to get it together.  I even gave myself more work by electing to include the Eduard Big-Ed set for this kit.

I am actually intrigued by the new Kittyhawk offering but considering I am already nearing completion of this Revell Germany kit (in addition to 3 48 scale Airacobras) I really cannot justify another P-39.

I just recently started the Special Hobby 1/32. The instruction sheet is drawings only and are very vague, especially where the resin cockpit is concerned. It took multiply dry fits and lots of experimenting to come up with something that might work. Also have found a fair amount of flash and some not so well fitting parts. One half of fuselage has a short shot on the scoop behind the cockpit while the other half has flash. I think this may take awhile. Anyone else have simler exp?

I did one last year, out of the Revell boxing. It had its typical "limited run" qualities, which does require another set of skills, that is not necessary with todays top standards in injection molded kits...ie...Tamiya, Hasegawa, etc. Extra filling, extra sanding, extra trimming to make parts fit....as frustrating as it can be, that's part of the fun for me!

 

 

 

I couldn't agree more with fermis. What fun is building a model if it just slaps itself together? To me modeling is about making it work, and doing it your way. There should be difficulties, this builds your skills as a builder. If I wanted easy I would just buy Snap-Tites, snap them together and be happy with it. (which i am not against by any means). Smile

Tis a thought to start a new version except I'm cheap, stubborn, and have too many aircraft corpses in the bone yard now. Have you done th Kitty Hawk version?

It is indeed a rebox. The reviewer at britmodeler isn't that unhappy with the kit though... I am eyeballing this kit myself as i still want to do a VVS lend lease version...

The Revell kit is the Special hobby kit. Different box and markings.

Does anyone know of the quality of this kit? I've had a Special Hobby 32 scale 39 in my stash for some years now. I've been putting it off due to the difficulty of the build or so I have been told. Hoping for a good fitting kit. Thanks in advance for any info,
