What are thoughts on the Hasegawa kit versus the Eduard kit?

Once again you show how to make a model!  Great work on that 190, Joe.

All of this praise is going to go to your head!  LOL!

Did I say that was great work?  Big Smile

Thanks everyone.  Reasoned, I have the Tamiya A-3 in my stash.  I think it even has Hahn's markings.  I've read that other than a short landing gear and small wheels, its decent.  It certainly looks nice in the box.  I also have the Tamiya D-9 too.  From what I understand, most JG2 planes were similar in appearance with little if any variations.

Rad Max, do it!.  I built Priller's 109 E-3 with the Eduard kit recently with the deranged penquin on it.   Thanks for the comments on the bases.  All my planes get them.  I get alot of positive comments on them, so perhaps I'll post a tutorial on how I make them on my next build.  Its nothing more than a wooden plaque, real dirt, model railroad grass and Elmers glue.

Again, thank to everyone for the kind words...

Joe

Awesome work, Joe. Your cockpit looks superb, as does the final finish (like all your builds!)

You'll have to show me how you make those nice bases sometime.

You're also making me want to build my Pips Priller edition FW190!

Excellent work Joe, your office work is tops, looks to be the same outfit as "Assi" Hahn's?  Have you built the Tamiya A-3, wonder how this kit compares?

Science is the pursiut of knowledge, faith is the pursuit of wisdom.  Peace be with you.

'Thanks Nathan.  I agree and hope to build several more.  I have an A-4 left in the stash.  Perhaps after a few 8th Air Force subjects.  On deck is a 56th FG P-47 M.

Great work. I love yellow rudders and cowlings. This is one of Hasegawa's greatest WW II kits I think.

1/48 Hasegawa Fw 190 A-5 (Egon Mayer JG2) Finished.......
Posted by lawdog114 on Monday, April 7, 2014 10:26 PM

Hello,

I just finished this turkey for the Fw 190 Butcher Bird Group Build, so I figured I would post it here too.  It's the 1/48 Hasegawa FW 190 A-5 in Egon Mayer's JG2 markings from the Summer of 1943.  Mayer was a 102 kill ace who was often referred to as the "father of the head on bomber attack".  Some may be familar with the June 26th, 1943 incident where Mayer pumped all of his ammuntion into 56th FG Robert Johnson's P-47C but it still wouldn't go down.  He then saluted Johnson and flew away.  Johnson then nursed his sieve back to England.  Ironically Mayer would succumb to the guns of a Thunderbolt in March of 1944.  I've always been facinated with this incident and have wanted to do both these subjects. Well, one down........

The kit was a breeze.  The only complaint would be the wing root line through the cannon covers that needs sanded out. Its in a tricky, hard to sand spot, so it takes some time to get it looking good.   The only kit to get this right is Eduard, but the fit horrible.  Anyways, the only extras were a True Details seat, Ultra Cast wheels, and Quickboost gun barrels.  The RLM 76 was mixed with Tamiya paint and the RLM 74, 75 is Gunze Aqueous.  Weather was done with a Flory wash and postshading all sealed with Testor's Dull coat.  I also added fine wire for brake lines and smoke colored invisible thread for the antenna.  I will fabricate a new pitot tube from brass tubing since mine somehow disappeared.

The decals for Mayer's plane were from Eagle Strike sheet 48-230 "In Defense of the Reich Pt. 1".

Thanks for looking...comments are always welcome...

Joe
