You see, I saw all the techniques with the salt and so forth. This is just plain easy.

enamel prime with Testors silver.
Painted with my airbrush an acrylic top coat.

The acrylic wore off real real easy, I put 2 coats on. No problem and it looks absolutely stunning, in my opinion of course.

Sounds great. I just tried something similar on my Beaufighter props. Primed with testors metalizer, then coated the edges and some random spots with moistened salt. Then sprayed black and removed the salt crystals. For me this didn't work because the salt only left tiny specks of exposed metal (kitchen salt may have too small grains?). I therefore chipped more paint off with my modeling knfe, but it still isn't perfect.
Would love to see your pictures, and hear what paints you used.

I absolutely am mystified by this. I am finishing the Tamiya 1:48 Raiden I think it is called. I tried something to replicate the boxart. It was worn and torn at the wing roots and various places with silver showing through. I did what I normally do which was to prime with silver. Came back with green top and grey bottom, let it dry and took my scribing tool and just started lightly scrapiung. Wallah, top coat comes off and there before my eyes is beautifil wear and tear in interesting places. No tape, pens, speckles, just bare metal lookin. I even went into panel lines, they look worn. This is one of my best yet. I love the look. Just futured it before I left for work. After decals I will try and get a phote. I love it!!!!
