Did you find a replacement nose glass yet? If not, I have a couple of those old Monogram kits lying around. I have one that I was hacking up to make positionable flying surfaces but haven't touched it in years since I have another finished model of that kit. The nose canopy has been masked and painted but it looks good. I'd be willing to give it to you if it helps continue your build. The paint can be easily removed if it doesn't fit your paint scheme.

I thought that old kit was pretty good for its time. The one thing I liked was that the wing to fuse fit is perfect and almost requires no glue. Only down side compared to modern kits is the raised panel lines. Still builds into a nice looking model though.

One other note: The pitot tube is molded on the wrong wing.

If you want the canopy email me your address and I will send it off to you.

Here is the present WIP.  I set the canopy on over the cockpit but it is not finished or glued down.   After looking around I decided to go ahead with what I have and complete the model.

Thanks for the input, guys.  It's a Monogram.  I should note something about the fuselage fit.  Normally the edge resulting from the halves fitting together is a ridge that needs sanding.  With this kit the edge down the middle of the topside of the fuselage is recessed a bit and needs putty to fill the "trench" so to speak.   I built a Bf 110 monogram 1/72, one of the old ones and the fit was really good all around.  The fuselage fit on the Do 17 in this case is it's most disappointing feature.   This is the sixth model I'm building since I resumed the hobby.   So far I've got two models that I'm satisfied with.   The rest have become WIPs.   The problems that come up must be solved if I am to progress.  I'll post some photos later.

Thanks for the lead on the canopy.

Taking a guess, based on the age,  the kit you have is from Lindberg?

Have you tried contacting them for a replacement?

Squadron does make a 1/72 Do 17z canopy, but is designed for Revell and Matchbox.

regards,

Jack

No VN750, your canopy troubles are not an unusual situation amongst modelers.

It's refreshing and encouraging to me for good peeps like you to share your defeats as well as your victories.  Sometimes I get discouraged at my ineptitude and want to give up on this hobby until I read that others are having similar trials, then many good samartitans on here post on how to fix the various problems and I'm back in it again.  "As soon as I think I'm out, they keep reeling me back in "  LOL

Just kidding, I'll NEVER quit .

Not bad, as far as fit goes.  Last copyright  is 1968 on box.    I can do passable canopy work and for those who are not among the cognoscenti engaged in this medium it will look pretty good.

Here's the problem:   The canopy and the underside observer glass came out OK but the nose glass has given me fits.  It wasn't my intention to produce a world class model because I'm still on a learning curve but I have redone the nose glass so many times that it's no longer of use IMO.  Can replacement parts for models like this be ordered?

I have a lot of models and the 1/72 scale is kind of a practice for me before I ruin anything of a larger scale.  Conventional masking with Tamiya tape worked well with the other glass.  I just taped it using an Exacto to fit the mask, no good, then the liquid mask, no good.  Finally just strips of tape one section at a time.  No good because the Exacto left cut marks that made it difficult clean up the excess paint with a toothpick.

Anyway,  are parts still available for a kit this old?    Too close to finished to let this stop me.  I suspect this is not an unusual situation amongst modelers.
