Thanks for the input everybody, it looks as though I will be looking for a HobbyBoss kit in the near furture.

I'll agree with the others.

I had the Tamiya kit and was not too impressed with it. I had major issues with the main landing gear housing fitting to the wings.

It does come with a heap of weapons though, so if you want to put in a little effort, it would not doubt come out quite well. It does have raised panel lines though, so if you prefer recessed, may not be for you.

From memory, i think the Tamiya is a 1986 release, so a little old now.

I haven't seen the HobbyBoss kit myself, but i've heard it's meant to be pretty good. i have the HobbyBoss F-111 and it looks unreal in the box. I've also heard their F-14 is awesome too, so, presumably, the A-10 should be of fairly decent quality as well.

I'm a big fan of the Warthog (used to live in Tucson, AZ and enjoy seeing the pilots "hot dog" on their return to Davis Monthan from the practice range). Up close at air shows they're really impressive!

My experience with the old Tamiya kit is that it's very outdated. Even though my skills have improved since I built it, I wouldn't buy another one; way too many fit issues. I can't speak to the Monogram having never owned it.

Based on a couple reviews and build articles, I bought the Hobby Boss kit. In box it's miles ahead of the Tamiya, and I'm looking forward to building it in a Desert Storm scheme. I'm not anticipating "needing" any aftermarket resin or PE to produce a good looking model. My two cents...hope it helps!

I'm no authority on the A-10, but I hear the Hobby Boss version is the best, as far as a "modern" kit is concerned.  The old Monogram version is apparently still the most accurate. I think the Italieri example is a rebox of  the Tamiya kit (they have been commingling lately).  Trumpeter makes a 1/32 version which is supposed to be nice if you wanted to go that route.  Check E-bay for deals....

Good luck....post pics..

I want to grab and stock pile a A-10 for a future build. I used to have a Monogram kit that was about 90% done before I tried painting the wheel wells and landing gear with some paint that reacted badly to the model. I never finished it and when I moved I ended up throwing it away. After looking back on that kit I am not that impressed with it. I ended up buying one to build a quick flying version to hang in my son's bedroom, but I want something a little nicer for my own collection.

Now I am in the market for a replacement but I will not get around to building it for a little while, I just want to know that I have it in stock. Of the Tamiya, Hobby Boss or Italeri kits, which one is considered the best out there? I am not looking for a bunch of add on parts and pieces. I want to display the aircraft in a fairly calm setting just parked on the ramp all buttoned up as it would look sitting a a typical airbase.
