Hello,
I started this kit about 3 years ago, got so frustrated with it that I put it aside. Worst fitting kit I ever built at that point. Gaps everywhere that needed styrene to fill it. I am now a little better than I was 3 years ago, and it wasn't that much of an effort to finish it. First time using the hairspray method, and it works really well.
Thanks,
Rob

Well done, Rob!
This is one of my favorite aircraft and you have done an excellent job , especially the paint finish .
great job on IL2 ! one of my favorite ground attack platforms !
Now that is a cracking job. Great chipping.
Great looking build, hard to believe you had so much trouble with it. The chipping looks really effective, nice work.
I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

I've never been one for Russian planes of this era mostly due to design and aesthetics and little else. I understand they were quite formidable in the right hands. But I can't ignore the fantastic job you did on this IL2. The weathering/paint here is quite well done. A great attention to detail!! And I even love the skis. Any break from the norm is always a welcome to see. =]

Thanks so much for the positive comments. I have read rave reviews of this kit, I'm not sure why, though. Its a rebox of another maker I believe, but I'm not sure by who.
The paint and the weathering is amazing. Superb workmanship you have there. :)

I like seeing your work, Rob. Very nice realistic weathering. You've got the right amount of base color showing through. This is the Accurate Miniatures kit, no re-box. The fit is tricky. There is some good tips on hyperscale that differs on the assembly of the wing to fuselage steps, which allows it to fit much better.
Like it! Really nice job!

Stunning........

What is the "Hair Spray" method?
Essentially after the base coat is done(camo in my case), you paint the model or selected areas you wish to chip, with regular hair spray. Then after that dries, cover it with the next colour(in my case, it was the winter white wash over the camo). Then apply some water with a brush in the areas you want to chip(just a small amount), this soaks through the outer layer of paint dissolving the underlying hair spray layer, allowing the paint to "chip" off exposing the base layer. Just google it- there's lots of info on the net about it.
