I'm blown away at the detail on such a small scale.

The oil wash is only a mixture of black and burnt unber its only applied to the cockpit and then with a ear bud lightly dampented wipe over to remove only the raised detail area. the camo it has been done with only tamiya paint the green is nase coat olive green XF58 then mixed with XF4 yellow green dusted only to the centre of each of the panels only and the same technic used on the grey with XF66 base and mixed with XF19 .All this was applied with care over the preshaded area

I really like the depth of your pre and post shading.  Can't wait to see the finish.

Your Mustang is looking good.  I’ve just finished the new Airfix Zero and their new line will make me a return customer.  I need one of these Mustangs for a TEX ANG build and the kit looks like another winner.

Airfix never really moved the needle for me, but after getting into the hobby after a 20-yr absence, I've really come to appreciate their new tool kits. Love your build! Yet another kit for my wish list!

You blew that kit outta the water!!!!!!!!  Nice work there. I have to admit that the new Airfix kits are light years ahead of the older ones in quality and detail.

TY for the reply Jezz.

I've got all the supplies I need for the oil wash technique but as of yet, not your skill in using them.

That looks really nice. The new Airfix kits are really a step up from there older ones. I use to avoid Airfix like the plague, but now I have actually started buying them again.

Basiclly its tamiya smoke thinned to almost watery consitancy while holding kit as if it was in a nose dive and holding airbrush at a 45 degree to the leading edge of the wing.usimg a dual action airbrush i bepress brush for air to start then slowly draw back the trigger until a small line if paint comes out start spraying and bend a few flicks of your wrist backwads untill u have the desired effect..

Your looking for more of a build up of paint at the muzzle of the gun and a feathered effect moving back  just takes a bit of practice

Also u can ting the tamiya smoke with a brop of a colour  for various uses

E.G ..exhausts on motorcycles buy using tamiya clear colours to replicate a tempered metal fiinish

Fantastic looking, especially for 1/72. I could swear the finish pics were of a 1/48.

Nice work! I am going to have to look into 'oil' washes now.

Hey were the 'teeth' a decal?

Thanks guys for the great comments  ulterior modem oils are simple as long as u have a coat of johnsons clear down to protect the paint underneath and of it goes wrong u can wipe it all away whith white spirits and start again and  yes the shark mouth is a decal

Jezz,

That is an incredible build.  I'm off to practice with Tamiya smoke to see if I can also pull off the gun streaks, thanks for sharing the tip!
