It might be a fluxgate magnetometer.

Chasing the ultimate build.

Totally a guess here, but I'll take a stab at the Camel, or possibly the Sopwidth Tri-plane.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Sorry to have been gone for so long.

Here is a trivia question:

According to the book Gunning for the Red Baron, which aircraft was purpose-built to defeat Richthofen's skill with the Fokker Triplane?

BlackSheepTwoOneFour

I clicked on the link in the first post. Seem to me it looks exactly like a radar pod of sorts pod that attached to a Super Sea King chopper image - also on that link.

Look's like the OP may have figured out what it is as I'm pretty sure that the Seasprite image wasn't there to start with.

That'll be a 100US Gal fuel tank for a Kaman Seasprite then - one worthy of the old "Aircraft Trivia Quiz" for sure Beer

Thanks friends, something triggered my memory and I realize what it is now.  It's a fuel tank from the SH-2 Seasprite from Cobra Company.

Torpedo?  It seems a bit short, though.  I would say fuel tank.

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.

Only recon aircraft I have is an RF-84 and I'm pretty sure this doesn't go with that.  Also, I noticed there is a cover that looks like a fuel filler, but I'm pretty sure this isn't a fuel tank!

I've had a look about but can't find anything that seems to match...

My first thought was an early radar pod of some sort -the rounded nose suggests that it's either subsonic, has a round rotating head that hasn't been detailed or is designed for dumping in the sea.

Radar, ECM, PR or air dropped torpedo/mine all come to mind.

Good luck!

A "pod body" conjures up the recollections of the film: Invasion of the Body Snatchers" .

But that item actually reminds me of a photo recon pod in two parts.

Did you have a recon aircraft kit?

I'm fairly certain it's a more modern pod, whatever it is.  I'm almost thinking it might be some sort of gun pod.

I have no idea, but first thought was an older radar pod. Sorry I'm not much help on this one.

Help! What the heck is this?

After many years of not building anything due to other obligations, I'm finally back into building again.  Going through my boxes of parts and spares I found a bunch of these, but I can't remember what it's for or even what it is.  The pod body is about 2 inches long so I imagine it's 1/48 or 1/32 scale, but what is it?  If anyone can offer some help I'd sure appreciate it.

Cheers,
Tom
