Subscription kits?
Posted by Cadet Chuck on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 3:56 PM

Just got an e-mail from FSM advertising a 1/32 DC 3 model.  You pay $99 a month for a part of the kit, plus shipping and tax, etc., for 12 months.

I have recently seen other "subscription" models like this for exorbitant prices.  What do you think about this kind of marketing?  is a 1/32 DC-3 really worth over $1200?

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

Mrs. Cadet says no. I couldn't afford that kind of thing anyhow.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Looking at the Spitfire that was offered a few months ago, no. I can get bad rivet detail for pennies on that dollar.

No way. Although the 1/250 Akagi looks good, I wouldn't pay the price for it though.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

I don't know anyone who can afford those kits.  It's like me looking at a Lamborgini and knowing I can only afford the Prius.Wink

I can't justify the cost.  In total that would be roughly 40 $30 kits.  I'll take the 40 kits...
