Fun build! Everything fell together with only problem being incredibly weak landing gear to wing bond joint

- both broke with very little loading (dust on the wings?).  Fixed both using the Tamiya metal wire spine method before re-bonding. Only after market was Edward’s mask and PE engine details and Yellow Wing decals (tough to settle down even with multiple Solvaset applications).  Used the stock vinyl tires which looked pretty good IMO after Scotch Brite treatment.

My first attempt at the “hair spray” technique.  Things I learned:

  • avoid aerosol HS - leaves water droplets, use the pump spray stuff decanted and airbrushed
  • stiff paint brushes took off way too much top coat, wet flat wood toothpicks worked much better for me, more control on location and amount of chipping
  • After final coat and chip and Future layer, take care to avoid rubbing too hard with mineral oil/ oil paint wash - I managed to remove some of bottom layer silver (Mr. Color super fine silver) and expose bare styrene which required manual fine bush touch-ups.
  • Love this technique and look forward to doing again.

Friendly suggestions and comments welcome. Enjoy,

John

Amazing build, thanks for the tip in regards to the landing gear.  I am considering this as my next build.

Very well done, especially the weathering but very neat work overall, too.

Nice job here.  I've got one on the desktop right now.  Just put a coat of primer on it.  Glad to hear your troubleshooting as i plan to do more of the same with mine.  I'd be willing to bet that it's one less fuss having all those rivets already present at 1:32...I was pretty busy getting mine on there. =]

She's quite pretty.

Hi BT109,

3 parts Tamiya XF-18 (med blue) to 1 part XF-1 (flat white) with slightly more white on the ailerons & elevators. I did a search on "Tamiya paint mixes" on the web a while back and printed out a list of recipes for standard WWII USAAF/ USN/ Luftwaffe/ etc. colors.  I didn't record the website but I believe here's a few of these on FSM as well as other websites.

Much appreciate the kind words and encouragement from you and others on this forum.  I look forward to sharing future builds and seeking advice in future postings.
