Accurate Miniatures A-36 Apache missing clear sprue!
Posted by jbuck85 on Friday, August 14, 2015 8:06 PM

So this is the second time Accurate Miniatures has done this to me, last time was on the B-25. I bought a brand new sealed in box A-36 Apache from a local hobby stop in Minneapolis (Scale Hobby Supplies, would highly reccomend it) while traveling for work. Got home a few days later, opened the box to check contents and the clear sprue was missing. Unfortunalty that sprue holds more than the canopy. Is there anyone out there that can help me out!!? Many Thanks-Bang Head

I believe Academy has obtained most of the old AM molds (at least their Dauntless). You could try contacting them, otherwise, look for a cheap AM kit on Ebay.

Actually the A-36 seems to have gone to Italeri.

Good, perhaps Italieri has better customer service than Academy, which is unimpressive. In short, I needed a part for my AM Dauntless and they offered to sell me a new one in their boxing for 40% off $60.00, which is a $25.00 kit to begin with. Fortunately I found a cheap AM kit on ebay. Good Luck

I recently talked to MRC about another AM kit, and was told they don't know who has the molds so parts are not available.  Bummer!

Thanks for all the suggestions! I didn't have much luck when I went to MRC about the AM B-25, but I did not know Italeri picked up the molds for the A-36. I will send them a message and see if they can help me out, fingers crossed!

Italerei has the kit as temporarily unavailable.  You could buy a new IP and canopy from Squadron, or get an ICM P-51A, or any other P-51B kit to replace the parts.  A reviewer at Cybermodeler said he would have replaced the canopy in the kit, so it must not have been perfect.

Great idea Rich, IIRC the canopy on the AM kit cannot be posed open. So if you want it open, thats the best option. Indeed, MRC's Customer Service is horrible. A complete waste of time. I've also hear AM still owns the molds and they just "loan them out" so to speak....who knows Maybe they will start up again someday.
