Dang mang, I like where this is going. The scheme is pretty cool and the tonal variations are quite nice also. Super work.

Thanks Joe.  Next one will be open canopy.

Light at the end of the tunnel for the bird.  Then I can concentrate on ordnance.

So if we cover a model with wash... how come it ends up dirty ???

Well, you had me in suspense for what- about 24 hours? Stick out tongue

So pretty, almost a shame to dirty her up with a wash! I love the blue tail fin.

WOW. You are doing a great old airplane justice. The A-4 has earned her place in history, like the B-52 and C-130. IIRC she went into production in 1954 or 53 and is still in use. The early version/proto-type had an empty weight of only 8000 pounds. For civilian aircraft the FAA considers an aircraft of 12000 pounds or less a "light" aircraft. In order for the A-4 (Es and Fs) to be upgraded with ECM equipment they had to remove the batteries and cut down the number of 20mm shells to 20 per gun. The aircraft had to have a ground unit start it. The Mike version of the aircraft has an APU and its exaust comes out the port side of the aircraft. A little known fact is that a Charlie version shot down a Mig in Viet Nam. The pilot used "kentucky windage" and fired a volly of HVARs from a rocket pack and hit a Mig 21. The other Mig turned and ran. It was a million to one shot, but it happened. I cannot recall the stats but IIRC the A-4 carried a significant percentage of the ordinance dropped on Viet Nam, and flew a large number of the sortees. She is a great old bird and you are doing her up in great fashion. Well done.

Wow that paintwork and those decals came out great! Nice job.

I have to admit one thing I'm having trouble with - I've read the thread like four times and don't know what movie you're talking about. Is it something with a Scooter in it? Am I really missing it in the thread? lol.

But really, this thing is coming along extremely well, and I think your black basing worked out nicely.

Smalls, BD, 1st, thanks for stopping in and the nice comments.  The movie is "The Sandlot"  Smalls is the lead character.  KillinMeSmalls'avatar is a kid that says at one point, "You're killin' me smalls."  I have to watch it again to see what smalls did. As good an excuse as any to see it again.

Ok now sing along.  if oyu;'re old enogh oyu  know the tune...

It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that "sting"

I used the black basing, well, green basing in this case, to get some tones in the olive drab.  Works even on the little bits.  The yellow stripe decal were not be very cooperative to say the least.  As long as the bombs were on toothpicks I chucked 'em in the Dremel and just had to touch the end with a brush of yellow.

I replaced the cables on the MER and got it painted and stenciled.  Is it accurate?  Accuracy  schmaccuracy, dunno if it's accurate or not but it look cool. Too bad it will be underneath.  Have I said recently how cool bullpups are?

Really sharp, solid work going on there.  Nice!

Oh, and I agree with you on the use of the term "wash."  We should all start a movement compelling fellow modelers to be more Terminology Correct/Terminology Specific and start using "purity-challenged fluid" or "unclear plus" instead of "wash." lol

Thansk for the comments guys.

Finished this up last night.  1st jet fighter since my "Top Gun' days of 1986 and I forgot how tedious the load out cold be getting it all attached.  The tank had locating pins so easy.  The Bullpups only had to be straight on a single pylon so again not to much hassle.  But getting 6 Snakeyes straight and even not only side by side by fore and aft too.   As nice as the Eduard MER is positioning the stabilizers is a task.  I dunno nuttin' about casting but I think that could have been done better so all those subatomic parts would line up better.  At least better than I got 'em.
Enough of the drivel.  My Eduard/Hasegawa A4E Skyhawk from VA-153 "Blue Tail Flyers" on the USS Coral Sea.
Thanks to all that followed along.  Comments and constructive criticisms always welcome.

That looks sweet to me, certainly can't see any thing to provide constructive criticism on. Really nice scheme and lovely subtle weathering. I know what you mean about these MER's. I had the same issue with my F-111 times 4. Give me a nice clean WW2 fighter or simply dive bomber with a couple of bombs. Big Smile

Awesome. The color of the tail just screams out from the gray of the fuselage. Great build. John

That is one pretty Scooter! Now Im beginning to wonder why I didnt build more models of this plane.

On the bombload and ordnance, I always make it a point to drill out holes and use copper wire as attachment points for hanging loads. Tedious, yes, but make the attachment far stronger. The copper wire also allows you lightly twist bombs and other ordnance into alignment even after gluing.

Seems rather mean to make such an itty bitty airplane carry such a big load.
