Tamiya 1/48 Douglas Skyraider
A first for me as far as a Vietnam subject.
And so we begin.
Sorry, really wanted to get the Mustang done. That and the exterior paints are not ordered yet.
A little is done. Paint is on the cockpit, the seat, the instrument panel, and yes even...........the pilot.
Well there is the beginning. And that is all for step 1. Step 2 actually has the pit installed and the fuselage together.
Going to be a quick bit on this one.

Wing the doubt was planted when I opened the box.
Time for a long overdue update on a very neglected build.
Work has occurred on the Skyraider. The first seven steps I believe are mostly done and here is what I have. The fuselage is closed up and the wing is on. There is not much there really.
Like I said not much. But to this point there really has not been much to put together. Next up will be to work on the details.
An update.
Hardpoints are on.
As far as construction this is about it. All that seems to be left is canopy, tail wheel assembly, and the payload. Painting is close.
Not much to show but all comments, critiques, and criticism are encouraged.
Almost ready for paint folks.
The fuselage is ready.
The engine (closed) is ready.
And the payload is ready.
Next will be a Flat Black coat to preshade then onto the colors.
Nice work Joe. I love Vietnam subjects and can't wait to see the cammo on. Nice looking cockpit, but where are the instruments? Does Tamiya give you a decal. Ive always wanted to build a Spad but all the pylons and the ordinance work scares me
Many thanks. The decal for the ip is there. Not going to be seen though. All closed away with the fuselage closed.
Painting has commenced.
It is not pretty but I have been trying to get the cammo scheme right. In the end it is not perfect but I am going to live with it.
First steps.
Got all the colors on. Had some issue with the masking pulling up the paint in several places but got them on.
After letting them dry for a bit I sprayed a misty coat of the base colors mixed with Flat White. Once that had a chance to dry I went back with the original colors to try to give it the look I had seen in the pictures. I am not happy with the process. There has to be an easier way to accomplish what I did. However I am reasonably happy with the final result. Looks a bit harsh but the coming processes should help to tone that down some.
I am now calling the painting (fuselage anyway) done. I have other bits and bobs to finish off but the fuselage is painted.
Once the gloss began to fly I decided to keep it going.
Same process as with the Kingfisher. Do need to say that the decals are nasty. They shattered and tore very easily. Took a bit to get them on.
Weathering will be next.
Lookin' real good. Such a cool looking plane.
Those decals look great from here. I've never been a fan of the Skyraider, but I must say, you're changing my opinion on them with this build. Excellent work all around.

This update will start off with a bit of dry brushing to tone down the decals a bit. Once done I moved on to a bit of staining. I wanted to give it a bit of life but not to overdo the effect. My focus was on the nose with just a bit of staining on the wing and main body of the fuselage.
Just a few close ups of the nose.
With this to this point now I can move on to adding some of the little detail parts not yet attached.

Landing gear and wheels are on. Little things are ready.
Next up will be the final push. She is so very very close to the finish line.
