Yes, decided to tackle this. I had to scrape all rivets off, scratch build the cockpit. I used seat from F-80. I used Eduard 1/48 X-1 for gear. I used aluminum tube for pitot tube and vents in back of plane. I thinned down all doors and especially front of vertical tail. I used Alclad II and Floquil Bright Silver. Shawn G.
All that hard work really paid off. That's a beautiful build!

You didn't say, but I assume you started with the old Strombecker kit, yes?
Sweet NMF!! Very nicely done. You ought to bring some of that magic over to the NMF GB that just started. =]

Yes Paul, it is the "new" release from maybe 2 years ago. I couldn't remember the manufacturer.
Thank you for all comments. Shawn G.

Yes, Glencoe reboxed the old Strombecker kit. Don't know if they did any improvements.
Thanks for the info.
I will check for the kit during my IPMS swap meet visits but will be surprised if any improvements were made as the Glencoe re-issues I have purchased in past years included updated decals but made no other improvements.
I simply do not wish to build my original kit.
Same kit, great decals. Nice work, I plan to try to do one.

Great job! I just started the same kit last night, spent a couple of hours sanding off rivits and filing straight edges on all the fling surfaces. Now onto the cockpit.

Good luck John, you are right, the flying surfaces are way out of scale. I especially paid atention to area in front of verical tail. You could almost see through plastic, lol. Please post on here when done. Shawn G.
Here's what I got so far, rivitless plastic and a basic cockpit tub
Good lookin' build! I really like the different shades of NMF on that thing!

Here's a couple of photos of this weekends progress.
Awesome! What cockpit tub is that? Thank you for sharing. Shawn G.
I scratch built it from sheet styrene, and I made a deeper pocket or the front landing gear so it looked more realistic, what a pain.
