Wow what a difference. When you first brush painted it looked like it was going to glow in the dark. Afterwards incredible finish. Great work.

LOL!  Yes, it looked like it was a neon sign in Las Vegas.  Talk about bright!  LOL!  Thank you.

Turned out Great Toshi.  Its great to be able to expand paiting techniques.

Thank you ScottRC.  It was a new experience for me.  I know this much, I don't think I can pull it off on a 1:32 kit.  Besides painting more space (I would be questioning my hand painting skills in preventing streaks) on a larger model, I've come to realize how much more paint is utilized by hand brushing a project.  Overall, I had a great time with the Kingfisher.

Thank you for your support as well as the read and reply.

You've come a long way Toshi. =] Very nicely done.  I'm beginning to wonder where you put all these models when you finish them LOL. =]

Thank you, it was an enjoyable, fun, exciting, yet challenging road, made all the better with the support you and fellow forum members have given me.  I'm slowly but surely running out of room.  I'm taking a few more models to the VFW.  They put my completed projects in a display case.  I was very honored that they think so highly of my builds.

I was also considering displaying my collection at the local library or the local school library here in Streetsboro, Ohio.  I'll have to research that one, if not, I can hang my planes up.  Thanks for inquiring as well as the visit.

Thank you for the link, it was very informative.  I was in the mind set of my next build after the Trumpeter Stuka is completed.  Since I've never heard of Kitty Hawk until now, I'm thinking of purchasing their Kitty Hawk 1:32 P-39 Airacobra!  I think that the P-39 is a cool looking unusual plane plus Mrs. Toshi has the same sentiments as well.

It's looking great Toshi, really nice. I have this kit on my shelf, perhaps one day I will pull it down and have at it.

Thank you sir.  I'd love for you to post your build.  That would be great!  I can't wait.  Thank you for the read and reply.

This is my kit. Do you know if Verlinden or any other company make update set for this bird?

Lonestar makes a nice main float and cokpit set:

That's a good lookin' build there Toshi. I always had a soft spot for a Kingfisher but the only kit out there is the Monogram offering. I've built a couple of my retro builds using the old Monogram platforms and just cant bring myself to build one of these. Good job and hats off to you for pulling this one off...

Thank you Mustang1989.  I've always admired the Kingfisher, it's a nice looking and unique aircraft.  I so enjoyed this build, I had a great time, especially the hand brushing.  I didn't think I could complete it but, Mrs. Toshi encouraged me to move forward.  Thank you for the read and reply!

She looks really good Toshi. For years I mainly brush painted models but now I'm using airbrushing (and using rattle cans) for my finishes. I still find myself brush painting various larger parts on kits when I don't feel like spraying paint.

Thank you sir!  I really enjoyed brushing a kit for the first time.  Thanks for visiting.

Thanks UKguyInUSA.  I've never hand brushed a whole kit before, that was a fun experience.  I am excited to receive the Trumpeter Stuka.  ETA this Friday or possibly Saturday.  Thank you for visiting.

I think most of us here have that in reverse. I started handbrushing kits and then moved on to airbrushes.

You did fine work on the Kingfisher, Toshi.

When I started building models at 8 years old, my dad used to help me paint my models with the Testors spray can.  So I never did hand paint a model whole before.  Even until my recent return to the hobby, prior to Mrs. Toshi purchasing a NEO AB, I was using a spray can.

When I painted the Kingfisher with brushes, it was really fun!  I enjoyed it very much.  I don't think I can pull it off on a 1:32, I'm not that good.  LOL! Thank you for the read and reply.

Great job on your Kingfisher, Toshi, more so that it was all done with the "Hairy-sticks"!

I look forward to seeing you put together the 1/32 Trumoeter Stuka...I bet that's a fabulous kit!

Nice work Toshi, I built one of these last year in a diorama.

Thank you, ohhhhh!  I'd love to see your diorama!  That sounds really cool.  Thanks for stopping by!

Nice work, Toshi.  That's a fine looking Kingfisher.  I moght have to add one to my stash.  I'm amazed that it only took about 4 days to produce it, wow.  Great work.

John

Thank you wolfhammer1.  I would recommend this kit, just make sure it's the kit with the PE.  I've never messed with PE in 1:48 before.  That was a challenge.  There is a really nice Kitty Hawk 1:32 Kingfisher.  One of the forum members Subaroomike posted a photo on this thread, check it out, it sells from $70.00 to $110.00.  eBay is the cheapest.

Thank you for following as well as the read and reply.

To my fellow forum members,

Here is my completed Kingfisher.  There were no issues nor concerns as far as fit and finish goes, everything went surprisingly well together.  For my next project, I'm going to button up the BF 109.  Once that's completed, I have a Trumpeter 1:32 Stuka heading my way.  I should receive the Stuka by Friday.

Hi Toshi,

You have downsized to a 1/48 scale eh?   I do a lot of brush painting because I like to do it more then I like cleaning an airbrush. Think of it like a 3D painting and then use the same techniques an artist will use for softening and blending the colors.  Most important is to make sure the paint is not to thick, or not too thin, and to use a good, flat brush that will stay loaded up with paint, and use light strokes to thin out and prevent those dreaded stroke marks.

You may want to soften your lines between the dark and light colors by mixing the lighter color with a tad of the darker to make a balance tone and using a very soft, broad, flat brush, dry brush along the edge and soften it up so it blends.  It takes some practice but it is a fun excersize.  Again, like doing a 3d painting.

Now, like if you airbrushed it, give it some washes of light gray on the light colors and black/brown over the dark colors, again to soften up the tone.  Weather if you want. Then follow up with your final clear coat.   You did a cool job on the 109, and those same techniques would look great on this project as well.  I wish I could include pictures but my Photobucket account has gone kaput and I'm still working at getting it fixed.   Scott

Thanks for the information, I've never heard of it explained that way.  Yes, I intend to weather the Kingfisher to tone down the colors as it is bright enough to be a neon beacon!  LOL!
