Devil Dawg

Toshi,

I've been following your numerous builds off-n-on since you started posting to these forums, and, I must say, I am extremely impressed with the progress that you've made in the past year. The Airacobra looks magnificent, especially the cockpit detailing and painting. Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

Thank you Devil Dawg.  I really appreciate and am honored that you follow my builds.  Thank you so much for the read and reply.

That's a cracking build, Toshi, I really like the look of that aircraft and the way you've finished her....she's a beaut!

Thank you UKguyInUSA!  I too like the unusual look of the P-39.  It has many odd features like a nose cannon, car style doors, the first tricycle landing gear on a single engine plane, and a mid-mounted engine.  I just had the passion to build on such a unusual looking plane.

I'm beginning to love working with PE.  That was a great part of this build.  Once it came all together, there was a sense of satisfaction.  Thank you for the read and replies.

She is beautiful! I did not mean my comment on the underside color as a criticism, just information. Your build is stunning sir.

Thank you my friend!  Not to worry, we're good!  I learned a lot and you taught me to be more vigilant in my builds.

Toshi

Another fine build and finish, quite a lot for you to be proud of. Your assembly line is turning out some great models, at a rate nearly equal to war time production. You'd better see if one of your next door neighbors would be willing to sell their house to you, you're gonna need some place to display all of your completed models.

Thanks for all of the posts and photos, it's great fun to follow your progress. You're a very accomplished builder now, and so quickly, too.

Patrick

Thank you Patrick206.  I've been donating models to the VFW, they really enjoy the models.  Thank you for the kind words, visit, and support.

I've been quietly following this build since you started it. I have to say that your skills just continually improve at an impressive rate, my friend. This build looks really, really good. I bet it looks great hanging from your ceiling. :)

Excellent work, Toshi. Looking forward to your next armor build... still.  ;)

Thank you, and thank you also for following my builds.  This means very much to me.  I was reminded by Mrs. Toshi that I started to build model kits a year ago.  I still remember that it was the Monogram Blackwidow.  I'll hang the armour next to the widow!  LOL!

She looks good from what I can see Toshi, you did a good job there on the white areas which can be a bear to paint since it won't cover anything else very well.

Heck if nothing else attach the plane to a base where no one can pick her up and look at the blue underside! Wink

She is looking great Toshi. And never mind the underside, just mark it up as a lesson learned.

Thank you Bish.  Yes, I definately will do so.

Toshi-  I agree with Aggieman on leaving the belly alone, especially after decaling her.  Take a look at pic #300 of what I sent.  Good look at the gear legs in that one.  That would be an easy fix if you decide to do it.  Looks like almost the same tone as the OD on the fuselage, but it could be just the way they did the restoration at Erickson.

Nicely done in any case.

Once again, thank you so much for the emailed photos, this was a great help for me.  I will leave that build as such, Mrs. Toshi was very happy about that build and now and so am I.  I know I can do better, I'll just up my game and continue to move forward.  I just realized.  I started building model kits approximately one year ago this month.  It was the Monogram Blackwidow.

I am pleased with my progress thus far, now I need to see how much better I can take this to another level.  Thank you so much for your support, read, and replies.

Aggieman

You know, I think that if you are happy with your build, which looks really good from where I am sitting, then I would just leave it alone.  It looks good.  Who cares if it is historically accurate?

I just completed my set of Airacobras.  I used Bert Kinzey's Detail and Scale book as a reference.  Yes, I did not see any examples of 'Cobras with blue undersides but the book is not exhaustive.  Who knows, maybe there was a blue underside 'Cobra roaming the skies of the South Pacific.  Another thing I notice is that you painted the landing gear legs aluminum or silver.  Back to the book, I do not see any examples of that.  Everything I see is the gear legs are painted "Bell green", kinda a dark green, not really green zinc chromate.  But again, if you are happy with your work, and you should be, then I would leave it alone.

You know, I've never had to detail masking white on green like this before.  This was a first time for me.  I'm ecstatic on how it came out as far as the masking was concerned, especially with the color white.

Going back to your comment, I am very pleased with my build.  I know it's incorrect, I'll just move forward and continue to do my research with more finesse.  One thing that you sir and many other forum members always point out is the fact that I had fun and am I happy with my build?  The answer is yes, and yes.  Thank you so much for reminding me as well as the support read and replies!
