Trumpy 1/32 A-7E (eating an elephant!)

I picked up this kit, several years ago, from a vendor table. The A-7 being my favorite jet...I could not let this go. I wanted to get right on it, but several things stopped me from diving in...mainly, the shape issues up front. In doing a little research, I discovered that Zacto-models made a resin correction set, including seamless intake. I contacted Zacto-models and only found that the sets were out of production at the time. No luck on e-bay or anywhere else. I waited for about a year and a half, for the set to go back into production. Next thing stopping me...aside from time and size of the project...was the scheme, and how I wanted to load it up. I'm still in Limbo on both accounts.

I have two a/m decal sets, but am torn. I dig some of the older V-man era schemes, but I don't really dig how clean the grey over white schemes are. I love some grey on grey with grey trim and all the dirt and grime on them, but most of the schemes/markings for a Dessert Storm bird are a little bland. Also, I want to load it up as a full on "bomb truck"...which I have not found any pics with a large loadout for a more modern A-7.

That said, I have 12 MK-82's from Academy's 1/32 F-18 kits...not sure if I want to mount them on four 3-packs, or two 6-packs.

Anyway...having 1/72 dominate the bench for the last several years, this beast seems like an elephant sitting on my bench, that I'm gonna hafta eat! Gonna be a long, slow project...little bit here, little bit there...eventually, it'll get done!

I'm very interested in how your resin parts will look.  It don't matter how long you take, I'm following this one.

Fermis -

Well Sir, great kit and aircraft. I am here for the long haul and will be watching until she is finished.

Good call on the resin correction bits. They are a must!!! Having just finished the 1/48 little brother of this kit(the 2 seater), I didn't realize how bad the nose and tail are until I had the fuselage closed up! And not to mention the canopy!! You must do a low vis scheme for sure...

Fermis,

You may want to cut a few 4x4's to reinforce your modeling desk for the weight of this beast!

Seriously, I'm looking forward to seeing your progress on this A-7.

Hello Fermis!

I'd love to see you build it in Vietnam scheme - and if you check your references carefully, you'll see those babies were getting dirty, too! Good luck with your build and have a nice day

I was on the IKE for 6 mon. and the 2 tone gray and white paint was hardly clean on the A-7e or any other a/c.

Haven't really gotten into this one yet.

Just put together the bombs (MK-82s from Academy).

Since I'm going with a Navy bird, I stippled some Tamiya putty on, with a sponge, and gave em a light sanding.

Ablative (?) coating.

Painted and decals (still needs dull coat)

(some grey tail pieces for variety)

That's it, so far!
