Favorite Hasegawa and Revell Warbirds Kits
Posted by Leddy on Monday, April 11, 2016 5:22 PM

What is your favorite World War ll airplane kit from Hasegawa and Revell?

What factors other than cost moved you to pick this kit?

How much should a good kit, say in 1/72 scale, cost?

thanks,

Leddy

I would have a hard time picking just one from each company. But I pick any kit to be part of my collection- themes such as carrier based aircraft in the Pacific, Battle of France/Battle of Britain, etc.

Regarding the cost of a kit in 1/72, I would say that you get more "bang for your buck" from new tool kits by Revell Germany or Airfix.

1 48 Hasegawa Starfighter kits hands down the best. Perfect fit and amazing detail in and out. As far as revell, you mean USA Revell or Germany?

Revell can be either Revell or Monogram original molds, or repops from Revell of Germany, not counting their many new tooled kits like the 1/32 Bf-109G's, Spitfire MkII, and the 1/72 C-54.

WIP:  Monogram 1/72 B-26 (Snaptite) as 73rd BS B-26, 40-1408, torpedo bomber attempt on Ryujo

Monogram 1/72 B-26 (Snaptite) as 22nd BG B-26, 7-Mile Drome, New Guinea

Minicraft 1/72 B-24D as LB-30, AL-613, "Tough Boy", 28th Composite Group

Hasegawa WW2 kind of hard to say because I never built too many.

1/72 Me-262.

Revell, come on!

1/32 Spitfire.

1/32 Hurricane

1/32 Corsair.

1/32 P-38.

1/32 Me-262.

1/32 P-51B.

1/32 Me-109 G. (Maybe my favorite of the favorites).

1/32 FW-190 D.

1/32 P-47 D.

1/32 P-47 Razorback.

1/32 Mosquito.

And those are only my co-favories. Every single one of them.

Paper route money. Bike ride to the blue chip stamp store.

Hand painted, tube glue, Swiss Army knife as the only tool.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

GM, you forgot the 1/32 P-40E Aleutian Tiger, the Stuka, the Seafire MkI (Spitfire VB), and Monogram's 1/32 P-51D (both colored and Phantom).

I still recall my grandmother from Japan sending me this incredible detailed Hasegawa P-51 Mustang.  As for Revell/Monogram, I like all of their kits.  No matter how much flash or seam joints there are!  Revell/Monogram, are such old school kits, it's hard to choose which one is my favorite, hence my love for all of them.

Hasegawa - I have not built many of their kits, but I did really enjoy their 1/48 P-40E. Should cost between $25 and $40 I think.

Revell/Monogram - I am an old-school Monogram builder. I built all of their kits when I was a kid. In those days Revell was a separate company, and I tended to only get their 1/32 kits when I had saved enough for one or when it was Christmas or my birthday. If I had to pick a Monogram mold, I would go with their P-40B. Built it first when I was 3; built it most recently when I was 46 and many times in between. You should be able to get that one for less than $15.

As for original Revell kits, I would pick their 1/32 P-40E. Great detail in that kit, and a classic box art too.

Hmmm, I just said 3 different P-40 kits. I guess I am a fanboy!
