P-61 canopy
Posted by MUSTANG1 on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 7:58 PM

Hey guys, Are there any after market p-61 canopies to replace the junk canopy for the revell p-61? The fit of the kit canopies are just sooooo bad! I've done everything I can think of and I just can't make them work. I am just about to go mad! Please HELP

Thanks, Charley

Vector makes one.  The only source I can find for it, though, is pretty pricy.

I used Testors' clear parts cement to fill the gaps, and filed down the fuselage to match the contour last time I built one.

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.

Ya, the only one I can find is the resin one by Vector, around $35, so I haven't got one yet. Still thinking about it.

Another option would be to grab an original 1974 release kit off ebay (white box with a built model on the cover). The glass fit much better when the molds were new. Vector must be crazy...

Well, when you're the only game in town, you can charge whatever you want.

It's a shame that Squadron doesn't make a vac formed canopy for this kit.  It's more cost effective to buy the Lion Roar kit.

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.

There are some tips in this thread at the Aircraft Resource Center forum:

I have seen the Vector resin canopy set firsthand, and it is truly amazing.  The quality control must be terrifyingly exacting; I can only imagine what the reject rate is.  How well it fits is something that I cannot comment on, as I have not used it.

It is also available from Sprue Brothers:

Too bad Falcon/Squadron never did a vac canopy set for the Monogram kit.  I have two P-61s in the stash and would get vac canopy replacements in a heartbeat.
