Here is the Hasegawa 1/72 P-3. Built OOB it was a fun build for an older hasegawa kit. I would have gotten more pics, but the weather outside had different plans.

B-One,

Nice, I like the subtle color differences you put into the grey.   If you don't mind me asking - could you explain your technique ?

Thanks Boss man,

I used the black basing technique. Basically I prime in all black then slowly start to fill in the color with the lightened base color using a random pattern allowing some.of the black to peek through subtley in random spots. It helps break up the monotone grey color.

Nicely done. Those old Hasegawa kits are tough builds, lots of fit problems and odd part designs.

Hello!

A very nice lookin' Orion! That's right - we don't see the models of them often enough. I always wondered how hard would it be to backdate one of them to the Vietnam-Era P-3A version.

Thans for sharing and good luck with your modeling projects - have a nice day

Paweł

Bac about 10 years ago I was TDY at the Marine base in Hawii and there were numerous P-3s from the U.S. , Austrailia, Japan, and I think New Zealand. Seeing a gathering of P-3s lines up in different markings was quite a sight. Seeing them take off one after theother was a lifetime memory. Your model is a great looking bird and not as colorful as the older paint schemes, but well done.

The P-3 was a development of the Lockheed Electra of the 1950s and one of the first "turbo-prop" airliners along with the British Viscount (IIRC). Other than the old Revell "box-scale" Electra does anyone know of a 1/72nd Commercial version of the Electra.

Again, great job.

and  u think Orion's are hard to find?

no Electra in plastic 1/72.

I grew up under the landing pattern at Moffett NAS, love the P-3.

so did I. I was born and raised in Mountain View. Remember when a P-3 crashed on the golf course?. Killed the whole crew except for one survivor.

Well done! I've been wanting to build another P-3 Orion for years since I dropped mine back in the day. It's still hard to talk about what and how it happened. LOL! This time I want to do one from Pax River NAS.

Lovely build. Did you restore any of the sanded panel lines? I currently have 2 P-3 builds on the bench. Hope they end up as nice as yours. Also have a boxing with these markings which I build one day.

Thanks Aussie, I actually was careful with the sanding and managed not to sand off any detail.

Oh Man, that is well done Mate.  Beer

Your black basing technique is stunning. I'm going to attempt the black basing on a rather large 1/48 F-111E I'm putting together now. Wish me luck.

I've got Hasegawa's P-3 which I someday plan to convert into a hurricane hunter.

I remember many years ago, shortly after my folks and I moved to the Hawaiian island of Kauai, a P-3 for some reason was landing at the civilian airport in Lihue and the pilot forgot to lower the landing gear.Bang Head Needless to say, that led to an extremely abrupt and noisy landing. The pilot was okay but wouldn't you love to be a fly on the wall when he got to explain to his superior exactly how he managed to wreck the plane?

Great job on 405. I flew her right after she got this paint scheme In 98 or 99, I'd have to check my logbook. The numbers were decals and started wearing pretty fast. The airframers eventually put some clear on top so, there was lots of actual silvering.

405 was an update 2 1/2. She was used for pilot training and trash hauling. She was a very reliable bird for VP-47. Barbers Point, HI was a great duty station for a young aviator. Your build brings back great memories. Thanks for sharing.

That is a stunning P-3 B_0ne. Excellent work. Really cool subject. My experience with P-3's was working with them on wildland fires as retardant planes. It was always quite exciting to call them in and watch them give you a low level drop. Thank You very much for sharing your top notch skills with us.

But I thought this was an all-weather plane?  lol.  Seriously, love it. Have been considering getting a kit of this myself.

yes it had a midair with another aircraft.

A friend of mine flew them. Super long time Down to San Diego and back, or up to Puget sound and back, or out to Hawaii and back, or a triangle of two out of three.
