1/48 Tamiya Heinkel He 219 A-0 NJG 1 "Ernst-Wilheim Modrow" (Finished..)

Hello, I thought I would share my "other" latest build. I built this and Schilling's Jug at the same time. It was my first "determined" adventure into tandem builds, and won't be my last. I sort of enjoyed switching gears from 8th Air Force to Luftwaffe.

Anyways, it's the Tamiya A-7 I backdated to a A-0 in the NJG1 markings of Ernst-Wilheim Modrow who was a 34 kill ace with 33 of them being in the He 219. I used the the Vector conversion set, which includes some resin parts to make the conversion, most noteably the 4 cannon belly insert and the second (and very fragile) Lichtenstein FUG 212 radar. The Vector replacement nose was found to be considerably undersized so I modified the kit part to match. I scraped the resin wing intakes since, at least to me, the risk didn't justify the reward Embarrassed .

I'd be afraid to even sneeze too close to that antenae aray. I have trouble keeping pitot tubes in place lol.

Man, you did an awesome job with the camoflage and that singular paint scheme underneath. I love this aircraft and you did a first rate job modeling it and displaying it.

I did the dml 1/72 version a couple of years ago and have that tamiya kit in the stack. The nachtjager camo is chalengling and rewarding when it turns out sharp like yours did.

The canopy is clean, exhaust weathering spot on and that complicated radar a work of art (ain’t no way the kids get to test fly that one:)

Just curious, what's the significance of the black bottom starboard wing?

Thanks everyone. Your all very kind. You ain't kidding Jay, I was afraid to even drybrush the resin one it was so fragile. Now I have to figure out a way to get this sucker to Massachusetts without damaging those. Good luck Mr. Stryker.....we're all counting on you..

Thanks Reasoned. The fit is excellent on this kit. The nacelles clamshell together and will need some sanding in the back to remove the seam. Also, the fuselage seams require careful sanding on the bottom because the panel lines run parallel and are so close together.

Not sure the significance of the black. My guess was the plane was damaged and they replaced the panels from a black undersided scrap plane. Still makes for an interesting look.

Yet another top notch build,you nailed it! Very nicely done Sir! I did this kit a while back and you are right the fit is awesome. The black was a means to avoid friendly fire,you'll see it on other night fighters as well, my Ju-88 G6 was painted this way too

Lovely work. I love the HE219, and that antenna set is just amazing. I'd be afraid to breathe on it. Great job.
