I'm with you Joe when it comes to jets but I must say, your skill can allow you to do either...so why not! As an aside, the absence of a greenhouse canopy and no antennae wire sure has its selling points.

Science is the pursiut of knowledge, faith is the pursuit of wisdom.  Peace be with you.

Thanks everyone. I'm glad you like it. It's safe to say the jet bug has bitten me. I really enjoyed this build. Aside from a F-14 Tomcat, I hope to do Robin Olds' F-4 Phantom and perhaps an F-86 Crusader someday. I see Academy has Olds' markings in their recent C kit.

I am in love with the weathering!  It really brings back the aircraft lines alive.  Great job on the finish!  I wish I can build like this, wow!

No kidding, that was fast! Great job on the markings too. We had a guy in the NMF GB do something similar. He painting his checkered colored markings (á la Joe's tutorial ;] ) before the Alclad and had the same step. I imagine that's an easy thing to do when painting with two differnt kinds of paints, i.e. acrylics vs laquers. Still, you pulled it off nicely. =]

Looking forward to that P-38!!

Another fantastic build!  I think that's the best weathering I've ever seen on a NMF.

Have always wanted to build Joseph McConnell's bird.

I was also knocked off the forums for a time.  Had to call customer service yesterday to get back on.  I hope you stay here Joe, this is the only forum I have time for.

This is the one of the best 86 build I've ever seen on FSM, add in the pressure of your commisions insistence of only Parr's decals, and a July 1st arrival deadline of the model back to him for Parr's Birthday makes this one of your most pressure NO mistake builds off all-time. Great job "Ace-Maker"

Bow DownBow DownBow Down

While I disagree with your assessment of jets, (they come in more colors than gray and can have all sorts of nifty things hanging underneath) I gotta say that your work on this one is top notch! Yes

Nice subject choice for the pilot. I have been wanting to build Manny Fernandez' mount myself. If I can ever find the markings.

Thanks everyone!  Murph, thanks for the pics.  I'm glad I decided not to spend  all that time sanding out the intake seam, as it appears its supposed to be there according to that frontal pic...

I got some work in and finished her up.  I would have posted more in-progress pics but I got blocked out of the forum for a while.  Everytime I entered my email and password it would go back to the login-in screen???  It seems to be working now obviously.  I thought I was blocked for some reason. If that keeps happening I'm going to go elsewhere.  Anyways..

I painting in all the stripes and lines then taped them off. This is sooooo much better than trying to make those yellow stripe decals conform and then look right.

It was then dusted with primer and I started the Alclad finish.  To me Duraluminum is the best "combat" shade so that's my base coat.  I then taped off select panels and sprayed them different shades. Here's the results.  In hindsight, at least with NMF, I'll probably lay down the NMF then tape off and paint in the stripes, as I had paint ridges in some areas where I layed down the Alclad too thick.  (Note:  I accidentally painted the wing walk line red, it should be black, I later corrected that...der!)

Time for decals.  I took a deep breath and tried out the Hasegawa decals as I need Parr's markings.  Surprisingly they behaved perfectly.  I was especially worried about the big USAF on the wings.  I had no issues and used my normal Micro Sol.

I just love that 4th FG boxing Eagle....

.....and after the decals were sealed, I added a Dart Dirt Flory wash and a post shade.  Postshading on NMF tends to be difficult because you have to add more black to make it show up and it's easy to overdo it.  Hopefully I didn't.  It was assembled here's the finished product....

Thanks for tagging along.......now back to that P-38Dunce

Lawdog114 Great stuff! Question did you paint the inside of the visable intake and if so what color? Made an F-86 a "gate Guard" (on a pedestal), needless to say the intake was plugged to prevent nesting of the feathers friends so I couldn't look. Kevin

Paint it a steel colour.  It's a bit dusty but here's the intake of the same Sabre 6 from above:

Further, here's a shot of the exhaust area:

Hope these help.

I'm glad to see you taking on something a little different Joe. The F-86 you are doing is an excellent subject and you are doing a magnificent job on it. I recently acquired a Hasegawa F-86 so I'm intrigued to watch you work on this.

Great start, and as the others have said, excellent work so far. I'm with you on most jets - they just don't do it for me like props. That said, when I built this kit, I had a blast, and I like the Korean War schemes with the yellow stripes. Can't wait to see you get some paint on yours

Thanks Murph! I don't know why I was thinking the insides should be red. I'll go with a steel color. Brandon, thanks! .I know I should participate in more group builds. Maybe eventually...
