Polikarpov I-5, 1941 - completed photos
Posted by jgeratic on Sunday, July 3, 2016 10:08 AM

This is ICM's 1/72 scale Polikarpov I-5.  Mostly out of the box, a Quickboost control stick was added, along with various size brass rods for detailing, and bombs from another kit.  Had to replace insignia decals, as those from the kit shattered.

This early 1930's design Soviet fighter was pressed back into service to shore up losses sustained during the opening stages of Barbarossa.  The I-5 was mainly deployed in the ground strike role, until factories could replace them with more modern equipment.

regards,

Jack

Hey Jack, pretty cool for sure. Like your wire bracing. I think my hands are too old and big to pull that off! (at least in that scale). Keep up the good work!

Jack, that is an exceptional build and in braille scale makes it all the more impressive given the rigging.

Thank you Don, Greg, Revenant, Toshi, Jay, Patrick, Cliff, templer1099, Max, and Reasoned.

Yes, the rigging was a bit difficult to do on this one.  Black thread against the dark olive finish made seeing properly trying at times.  Tweezers also were too big in some spots - had to rip the top wing off to get the wiring started in the fuselage area.

Jack

Very nice work.

The rigging looks taut and straight, the paint work is commendable, and you've done a good job overall. Thanks for posting.
