Yesterday, Mrs. Toshi surprised me with this kit. She knew I was done with my last build of which was the Academy 1/72 F4U Corsair. I happened to walk into the livingroom and Mrs. Toshi said here's your next project.
I must admit, the Me 262 was never on my favorite plane list until recently. I was aware of the existence of the 262, it just never fell into my favorite top ten aircraft of all time list. The biggest factor in that this aircraft fell onto my list was that this was the worlds first operational fighter jet. That is just way too cool to ignore!
I do have a Trumpeter 1/32 "Visible" Me 262 of which I'll add a photo of with this Revell 1/48 Me 262. Until that time frame, please enjoy my WIP below, thank you forum members for your support.

Cool project Toshi, I built the Tamiya and have actually seen a couple in museums. Cool airplane for sure, I'll be watching!

WEll I'll be! That is the old Monogram kit! I was wondering about that as I passed it the other day. That pilot paints up really nice. He was in the pictures with my 109 lol.

That old Monogram kit actually has some very nice molded details. I picked one up at a local modeling show a while back for $3 to be used as a test piece for scribing panel lines.
Not only was it the first operationional jet in combat but recall reading somewhere that it was the inspiration for the F-86's swept back design.

Another great build coming up, I'm sure. The Revell box art is a bit miss leading. Me262 did carry two bombs in the ground attack mode. But I doubt they would in a LOW level dogfight with B-17s.

As you can see from the second photo, the Jumo engines needed a ton of sanding but surprisingly no putty was needed. I utilized 120, 500, then 1200 grit sandpaper To get it to where you see it now. I dry fitted the Jumos to the wings and it's another sanding job. Still, it's a very nice build and I'm having a ton of fun on this beautiful Sunday afternoon.
Can't wait to see what you're gonna do with this one, Toshi! The 262 has always been one of my favorites.

As i understand it, the original design of the XP-86 could not reach the expected spee. It was only after Germany's surrendered and the allied got hold of all their research that the advantage of the swept wing was realised. So i would not say it was the 262 itself that influenced it but German research which lead to that wing being fitted on the 262, which then lead to the change in the F-86.

Excellent progress, Toshi. I remember those engine pods not fitting very well at all and I didn't have putty when I built it.
I won't be building my 262 just yet. I'm working on my Spitfire still. Well, after a little distraction, I'm back to working on it lol.

Here's some proggress. I chose to do the Messerschmitt Me 262A-1a Prague Ruzyny Airbase Czchoslovakia, May 1945.
Not bad, Toshi. Not bad at all! I like that paint scheme. My 262 has a similar one with the red and blue tail stripes and I'm leaning towards that scheme as well. But mine has different numbers and the nose isn't white.

Yes Bish, you have an excellent memory. Thank you very much, I so appreciate your support. Taking the photo shoot is as exciting as the build! It took awhile to do the white nose, everything worked out in the end.

I've never paid any attention to this aircraft, and must say that your last WIP shot above has piqued my interest.
It's building up really nice, and is actually a neat looking airframe IMO.

Interestingly, as Bish pointed out, the more I look at it, I'm almost tempted to paint a sharks mouth LOL! Well, we all know that the Allies used this pattern unless someone here knows of one. Bish, at first I thought the white nose was a disaster, I didn't like it and my mottling pattern. I realize I still must apply the decals and lightly weather the 262. Then I think everything will blend in and pull together. That will still take some time.
