Hello Baron,
I also had trouble with mating the lower tub to the fuselag on this kit, but hav built this kit previously and had no troubles. I have not done Tamiya's version so I can't compare them.
Cheers
Beautifully finished!
How did you find the fit? I'm building one now, and I found that the engine pieces didn't fit quite right (they're keyed, and the keys and notches didn't align), and the separate tub for the lower forward fuselage was tricky to get to fit.
Putting the sprues side-by-side with a Tamiya F4F-3, it looks like the HB kit may be closely related to it.
But the cockpit is nice, out of the box, and the landing gear bay is also relatively nicely detailed, too.

Inspiring paint job. Really crisp.
Here is several photos of the war games I found:

Monogram 1/72 B-26 (Snaptite) as 22nd BG B-26, 7-Mile Drome, New Guinea
Minicraft 1/72 B-24D as LB-30, AL-613, "Tough Boy", 28th Composite Group
Wow, that's rather striking ! Nice job on the weathering.

Incredible work! The attention to detail is fantastic. It looks so realistic that I was expecting to see the pilot and the crew chief to appear and get it ready for take off.
One of the best aircraft models that I've ever seen.
I sure wish I could handle washes and weathering in general like I see here. Really good job!

Holy smokes! Every rivet and panel line is done masterfully. Really an inspiration build for this newbie. Beautiful.

That's one hard workin' aircraft. Beautiful!
I also like what you did with this very much.
Nice work.

Interesting subject and you did a nice job renduring it. It seems a number of us are interested in what this excercise was.
What an excellent build! This is just outstanding!

Beautifully rendered bird. Be nice to know about the markings.

Thanks Pawel, sorry I don't know any more about the crosses other than they were markings used for an exercise the Marines did in 1941
Hello Grant!
At first I said - a 1/48 Wildcat - not my thing - but then I see: Grant have built it, so let's check it out - and that was a godd thing to do! Your model is lookin' very good! Beautiful weahering! Can you tell us something more about those red crosses? Thanks for sharing and have a nice day
Paweł

I find this quite the unusual scheme for a Wildcat, but it is one of the choices from the box. It is of the Marine Corps 1941, the red crosses are for a special exercise. The colour is Light Gull Grey.I used Gunze aqueous light gull grey for this one, other paints used were Tamiya and Vallejo acrylics, Vallejo Metal Colors and Gunze metalizers.AK Enamel washes, Flory dark dirt wash, and Vallejo matt varnish. I made this one pretty grubby as I felt that a mono colour of light gull grey looked to clean
