I finished this kit back in July. It's Tamiya's 1/48 P-47D-20 in the colors of Lt. Frank Klibbe's P-47D-15RE "Little Chief". It uses kit decals and some Eduard photoetch details in the cockpit and the brake lines. Paint is Testor's Model Master, covered with Alclad II Aero Gloss Klear, a sludge wash, then finished with Alclad's Flat Klear. I went with interior green for the area behind the pilot's seat, following both the kit instructions, a color profile and a color photgraph of the actual plane. If it's wrong, I'm not going to fix it until I see a clearer color image of the actual 42-76169 that leaves no doubt in my mind that the area was painted OD. (I'm just kidding, I already fixed it.)
Great!!!
Chasing the ultimate build.
EXCELLENT!
You can be really proud of that one, looks perfectly well built and finished. Thanks for the post and photos.

What a fantastic looking build Frank. Well done.
Hey Frank, Really nice job. Credit where credit is due!

Looks really good! Great job with the paint! Did the kit decals go down ok? I'll be building the bubbletop version of this soon and I would assume the decals will be similar. Really love the build

Very Nice
It took me over thirty years to learn to love the " JUG " . I got a " Bubbletop " and it all changed . I love what you did there . T.B.

I'm generally not a fan of Tamiya kit decals as they tend to be very thick yet also can be brittle. These were no exception. The key is to get them into position, use setting solution and then resist even so much as looking in the direction of the model until they're dry. You'll also absolutely need a gloss finish for their application, or they will silver. Several of the stencils on this kit silvered, and I realize that silvering is my fault, but honestly...the carrier film is just too thick.
Very nice build Frank. I really like the panel fading - how did you achieve that? Was is post fading or pre-shading?
Look forward to seeing more of your builds on here.

It's technically "post highlighting", because I paint lightened shades the base color onto the middle of the panel. Then I spray Alclad Aero Gloss Clear, apply the decals, seal them with another coat of clear and do a sludge wash with Grumbacher odorless thinner and oil paint. After I wipe it off, I spray the model with Alclad Kear Flat, which is a nice deep flat. I think the result is a combination of the process and the products used, because the color modulation that results has little to do with me...I am NOT that talented. But I ain't gonna look a gift horse in the mouth, because I'm very happy with the result.
Here are some in progress pics to get the idea of the process:

Wow Frank! Sorry I didn't comment on this one sooner. Guess I must have just flat out missed it. Weathering, details and paint are on a whole 'nother level. Really good looking turnout.

Outstanding work sir!
Really nice fading and weathering work Frank. It makes an Olive Drab paint scheme really pop. That's one tough looking jug.
All of the above - great work! Thanks for the original pics and the in progress post. Nice to see how you got that finish.
