Hello Everyone,

I bought this kit for my son, but he just couldnt get past the first few steps- so I took over and built it OOB. Part fit was poor, lots of sanding and filling of all major parts. I tried the hairspray technique for weathering, maybe went overboard a little, but I did want to make it look like its spent a few years in the Pacific. One problem I encountered but didnt even think of, is that after the canopies were glued and masked, I still had sanding and adjustments to do of the airframe. All these shavings made its way into the fuselage through various openings and collected in the deepest crevices and angles about the already glued glass. I didnt see this until after the plane was painted and the masks off. I tried with water, wire and cotton swabs to remove the debris, but some areas I just could not get to. Lesson learned.

Thanks,

Rob

Rob,

Looks like you did a good job of wrestling that beast of a kit into a very nice model.

I wonder if one of those cans of compressed air with a small diam straw on the nozzle would help to blow out the debris - or if it would just make it swirl around inside ?

The weathering doesn't look overdone to me.

Damn, never thought of that. I don't have the upper turret glued in so I can see the finished interior, so I could still get access the cockpit

You did a fantastic job with your build. Be a little careful with the air. You don't want to blow out the canopy, but if you do, we want video of the reaction ;)

Nice. That's such a cool plane.

Sorry about the shavings... you can't tell from the photos, but is it noticeable in the cockpit?

I agree with Bossman that the weathering doesn't look overdone for an aircraft in the Pacific.

How about using an airbrush to blow it out?  Would be a lot gentler than a can of compressed air.

I think it looks great.  It may also be best to forget the dirt, air will likely just stir up more and send it from invisible to visible areas.  That's just how it usually goes in my shop.  On to the next model!

Wow you did a great job on your B-25. I love the worn look you achieved on this well used war horse.

I had the same problems with debris in the cockpit more than once. i forced a length of clear surgical tubing on the end of my airbrush and gently inserted the tubing through the bombbay and blew most of the debris out with like 6psi. Sometimes it worked sometimes not.

Rob, I have to agree with other comments that you did an excellent job of weathering this war weary bird. Great build too! If I were to offer any criticism; it would be that the underside could use some weathering. It is not too late!

The dust is not a real problem; but if you want to blow it out you will need an outlet. Like remove a canopy, blow in through the turret and out through the canopy; otherwise you are likely to just blow it around inside the fuselage. And might break something loose!

Thanks for the great comments. I agree, I could use more weathering on the lower surfaces. I have a dark wash in place, but doesnt show up well with the pic. I may leave the shavings where they are. If I blow off the canopy, I will create more of a headache for myself!

She looks pretty darn good to me. Nice work on the canopies, I always make a mess out of painting the frames even with pre-cut masks.

Thanks!

I find the canopies the most painfull part- especially with the green-house types. I usually just cut strips of Tamiya tape- I'm too cheap to buy the pre-cut masks.
