B-17 Questions
Posted by PlanesGuy888 on Sunday, October 9, 2016 1:46 PM

I have some questions about the B-17G. What blocks were the Cheyenne tails added, what blocks were the staggered/unframed waist windows installed, and what would the oil stains and weathering for an engine that is missing(not gone, the other type of missing).

Thanks for the help!

According to Martin Bowman's "B-17 Combat Missions", the Cheyenne modification was installed starting with B-17G-90-BO (Boeing), B-17G-50-DL (Douglas), and B-17G-55-VE (Lockheed Vega).

Staggered waist guns was said to start with B-17G-50-BO, according to the same book.

Weren't the Cheyenne tail turrets also provided as kits for air depots to install at forward locations? So they could be retrofitted to earlier production blocks.

Yes, many were retrofitted in England to earlier G models as the F models were already replaced.
