I just finished the dio. Am I happy with it? Yes, I am :blob:
Heinkel He 177A-5/R2 in the last fase of being "bombed up" on its dispersal, Fliegerhorst Châteaudun, France, 1944. (1/72)
Every dio tells a story. For those who don't get it (LOL):
The crew has arrived by Kübelwagen and boards the plane for preflight checks, assisted by some technical officers. The rear gunner is not there yet: enjoying another cup of coffee in the mess.
Armourers execute a final check on the 3rd Fritz X radio guided bomb, supervised by a petty officer. However, it will stay at base since the Greif was armed with only two of them.
The last "schwartzmänner" just finished servicing the plane. They load their tools on the Opel Blitz, which will take them back to their barracks.
A petty officer makes notes on the bomb supply, registering which bombs were loaded and which will be planned for loading on the next Greif. A sentry and his Alsatian guard the dispersal.
Parts and kits I used for this dio:
- He 177: Revell
- Opel Blitz: Italeri
- Kübelwagen: Academy
- Bomb trolley: Academy
- Fritz X trolley: scratch built
- Bombs: from several Revell (FW 200) and Airfix kits (Ju 87)
- Figurines: from the ground personnel sets by Airfix, Heller, Revell
- Oil drums, munition crates and jerrycans: Academy
- Planking: made from wooden coffee stirrers
- Platform: print
- Vegetation: Woodland scenics
Thanks for looking,
Jan
