1/48 Tamiya F-14A Tomcat VF-14

I absolutely love this kit more and more. This was my test bed for the Steel Beach beaver tail set. Decals are a mix of Superscale and Furball. Paint is MM Acryl for the Gull Gray and Alclad for the white and metal areas. I realized I haven't painted the oleo strut and put on the catapult arm retraction struts yet.

Gorgeous!! I do love me a VF-14 bird, right behind maybe a VF-31 ;) any tricky bits we should look out for in the build? I know its a Tamiya so probably not very many. I can't wait to get to mine!

Nice looking clean build Beer. I have that here lined up as a comission and was looking it over. Way nicer and easier to build than the Hasegawa according to the reviews.

That CAT looks really good. If I didn't have so many in the stash I'd be tempted to buy it after seeing how well you made it look.

In the pattern: Scale Shipyard's 1/48 Balao Class Sub! leaning out the list...NOT! Ha, added to it again - Viper MkVii, 1/32 THUD & F-15J plus a weekend madness build!

Absolutely, it is worth the price.  I'm 75% finished with mine and have had ZERO problems.  Superbly engineered and masterfully molded.  Everything fits together perfectly.  It will take a lot of time and patience, but that's the fun of it, isn't it?

Without a doubt, this is the nicest kit I have ever had the pleasure of building!

Thanks all. As Cadet Chuck said, it's worth every penny. If you only want to build one (or two) Tomcats, this is the one to have. If you have others in your stash, sell them off to raise money to buy a Tamiya Tomcat. It's that good!

Nice job on that Cat. I bought this kit and am just trying to decide if I want to do a dirty one or a clean one. I picked up decals for the Swordsmen's shoot-down of the two Libyan MiGs and need to look at more references. I really like the way yours came out.

IIRC for that low vis swordsman (great looking scheme) during that engagement was a bit later model F-14A than the Tamiya, most likely with the chin pod/tail stiffeners/different gun vent. You might already know this so apologies if redundant, but check out Detail and Scales Atlantic Tomcat Fleet paint scheme book. You can get the kindle version on Amazon and it is worth EVERY penny of the $9.99. You can not go wrong. They do go into detail about the scheme on the two swordsman F-14s. Sorry for the thread hijack! :P
